rally and news conference 10:30 am thursday july 19 at the court house 420 cumberland road, courtenay, after short preliminary hearing into length of trial.
ernie yacub and bill myers have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a year and a half after the first north island compassion club (nicc) bust, and a year after the second bust.
nicc, a registered non-profit society, had been providing cannabis marijuana to club members for medical and therapeutic use for over twelve years in the comox valley. and over the last seven years from a dispensary at my home in courtenay - we informed the rcmp when we were dispensing at the train station and we told them when we moved to 719 6th - not once in those 7 years did they come by to talk or ask questions about the club and dispensary - they did come once when they were busting a crack house around the corner.
this coming thursday july 19, we will be in court to determine the length of the trial and to schedule court dates - we are mounting a charter challenge of the federal medical marihuana programme (mmar) and the controlled drugs and substances act.
there have been two recent successful charter challenges - the cookie case won by our lawyer, kirk tousaw, and the mernagh decision handed down by judge taliano in the superior court of ontario in which he said the mmar is broken, citing doctors as "massively boycotting" the program - both decisions are being appealed by the gov.
at 10:30 there will be a rally and news conference at the courtenay court house, please come if you aren't working, bring whatever cash you can spare for our legal defence fund.
speaking of 719 6th st, bob huddart, the landlord, has stripped the garden bare, throwing the plants and soil in a dumpster, and seeded it with grass - i wrote an article for the island word about being evicted in the middle of winter - you can still see the old garden on street view.
please pass this notice on to your networks.
thanks ernie and bill
