'Prince of Pot' Has Two Years Left In Prison Sentence

By Steve Elliott
Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Marc Emery: Two years to go

Marc Emery, the self-proclaimed "Prince of Pot" who is doing time in a United States federal prison, now has just two years left of his five-year sentence for selling marijuana seeds to American customers from his headquarters in Canada.

His wife, Jodie, who has spearheaded the Emery empire in the Prince's absence, is marking the occasion with him in Mississippi, reports James Lewis at Vancouver's CKNW radio.

"Eighty-five percent of the five-year sentence -- that's July 9, 2014 (when) he would be released," Jodie said. "But we know that next year, Marc is eligible to apply for transfer to Canadian prisons, and he'll be doing that in April.

"That's as soon as he can do it," Jodie said.

Mrs. Emery said she didn't expect a transfer to a Canadian prison to happen, due to the Harper government's "tough on crime" stance.

On Prime Minister Stephen Harper's watch, marijuana penalties have been increased in Canada, including U.S.-style mandatory minimums for growing as few as five cannabis plants.

Emery attracted controversy and criticism, even from some supporters, earlier this year when, brushing aside concerns about the flawed initiative, he called the opposition to Washington state legalization measure I-502 "foolish" and "dangerous."

Some in the Washington cannabis community, particular medical marijuana patients, have said that the DUI provision in I-502 would effectively render illegal all driving by patients due to its overly restrictive and scientifically unsupported blood THC limit of five nanograms per milliliter (5 ng/ml).

The Prince and Jodie Emery soak in the adulation of their fans

Marc and Jodie have and will sacrifice so much of themselves for us. Yet, as a voice, we are barely heard.

I get so wrapped up in my own perceived misery sometimes that I forget to see/ignore, the righteous misery that others put themselves through for our behalf.

Thank you Marc for your incredible sacrifice to the cause that we all believe in.

And to you Jodie, for standing by your man and waving his freak flag high every time an opportunity presents itself.

The both of you are inspirations to us all and will go down in cannabis history as some sort of saints.

To be revered like Catholic saints except that you are both real and not figments of our imaginations.

Marc did revere himself by never cowing to the "Man" and throwing himself on the grenade to save others in his fox-hole.

And you, Jodie, are a true saint for standing by Marc and continuing to put his message before your own needs.

As much as I don't believe in "God", I pray that you will be together soon even if it's just that Marc gets back on Canadian soil.

peace

this is bullshit if you ask me ..if one of our fucking stupid TV personalities gets arrested for anything thing they are out of jail in days or in some cases hrs after they are arrested or sentenced ..hell Robert Blake killed his wife and i am not sure they ever even put him in jail ..hilton , lohan, the list goes on ..but none of these folks ever serve the timer they are given ..a early release should be granted on over crowding alone ..hes a none violent offender there's no reason why he shouldn't be released early ..i would also bet he leaves the US when he is released and wont be coming back for anytime soon..i just seen on TV were they let a child molester out after just 2 yrs ..but a person who may have mailed some seeds is a bigger threat some how ..

Blake spent about a year n jail and about 2 on 'house arrest". Which i agree with you in the fact that is nothing for killing someone. Oh we all know he did it , just like Oj and a number of other 'stars' over the years.
I think the problem is law makes get lazy and throw a bunch of crimes under one law and thats how some people get the same or longer sentence then another person that did a a worse crime.
I am not a lawyer and do not know all the facts of the case in question but i do know our legal system has some pretty big flaws in it.

This is a clear indicator that the countries that we live in, Canada And the United States are really not as free as everyone is lead to believe. I find this whole Emery arrest and the way it went down makes me want to puke. I wonder how long both govs worked on the railroad to this imprisonment. Cuz that is what they did railroaded a peaceful activist into prison in a foreign country. RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
