"Give up your guns and give up your FREEDOM."

You know, you hit the nail on the head---for me, freedom is really quite reducible to the ability to turn someone else into hamburger from twenty paces or more.

of course we can throw barbs and parse words all day, but the Founders of the USA felt the Citizens would band together as a group to defy unjust government, ie the whiskey rebellion, and other events in early US history..not that lone gunmen would barricade themselves to pick off justified legal intervention. The right to bear arms was tied directly to the formation of local militias designed for Local protection of Constitutional rights, against a possible future opressive govt. And its the govt who has All the HAMBURGER snack packs in hand, not so many the home citizen. I hope that makes you feel more safe, knowing the people who detest your lifestyle, ie pot smoker have control of the most dangerous weapons in the country, and You wish to have control of none. Two cents one more time, Mikey

I believe that Mr. Shrub shows this program to be a failure---perhaps we up in Canada can get the kinks worked out? =]

I probably agree with you more than I may let on.
The problem seems to me where people place the gun-freedom. For me it's a parallel freedom to the freedom to eat whatever I like---it's not a freedom by which I protect all of the other freedoms.

All of these freedoms are, however, unifiable under a single concept---freedom from authority.

It just seems as though guns are a poor rallying point for this concept---some people have a kneejerk response to guns that is a bit unfavourable.

I also think that it would be premature to dismiss the differences in american and canadian culture...many canadians, myself included, simply don't understand this rabid mistrust of government that some americans seem to possess. After all, we still have the queen looking out for our best interests, and as defender of the faith I think she's doing a bang up job.

Guns are bad to a certain extent, accidents , nutjobs etc. On the other hand they can be fun and usefull, hunting, shooting clays, shooting contests ect.

I don't think guns themselves are 'bad'. They are a tool. The person holding the gun may be bad - but he/she is the one who controls the tool. Unfortunately, gun laws do very little to deter gun crime, but do punish and restrict lawful gun owners.

Let's face it - if a criminal wants a gun - he'll get it, regardless of how many gun laws there are. It is sorta like illegal drugs that way - if people want them - they are there dispite laws against them.
