Howdy all. I use a little mini bubbler to make my clones. I do this for my ganja as well as my food plants.

Question is, how succesful do you rate cloning by directly popping the cutting into soil?

My clones are doing well, most showing roots. The ones that arent showing roots through the grow plug... will they be okay if I pop them into a little dixie cup with fox farm soil?

Thanks!

Also, I should mention that my concern is that the grow plugs allow for too much light to penetrate into the hole so the roots are slow to take.. prolly could remedy that with some perlite...

The first clones i made i got 10 out of 10 surviving and thriving. As it turned out i had to cull 8 of them but still

The method i used was getting small pots full of my normal soil mix...pushing a thumb sized hole in and dropping rooting gel into the hole and then placing the cuttings in and covering the rooting gel with a little more soil to keep the light out. This way the roots grew straight out of the gel and into the soil so i didnt have to repot them until the plants were well established.

Saying that...using this method i had to say that if you arent careful the gel drys out and it all goes wrong very quickly. If you cant check your cuttings every day (if not twice a day) i probably wouldnt recommend this method.

Loc: huh? yeah.... right!
Depends on how hard it is to clone that specific strain, some are easy and take root quickly some arent so quick to do their thing. I have successfully rooted clones into a 50/50 mix of pro mix and perlite. Just added rooting gel onto the stem of the cutting before inserting into medium. Rooted quickly maybe a slight bit slower then with just vermiculite. worked well though, give it a try. I would make sure the fox farms stuff isnt gonna hold too much water though, if it does just throw in some perlite. A little trick i do is take the mix and put it into a pot, then water the mix and see how long it takes to drain out the water. Then you know if you need to add more/less perlite. Good luck!

Late!

I root clones in 50% peat and 50% perlite. I have never found a strain that would not root. Some take longer than others but I have an average of 95% on prime clones. I have taken clones off of frost bitten plants and such to save breeding stock which had higher death rates but never count them as losses as they were damaged before hand. I use the cheap powder from Wal-Mart. I place clones in 16oz solo cups(colored ones which block light) and place them in a lowboy 20 gallon fish tank with 2 shoplights hung just above the tank. I mist the clones twice a day for about 5 days then go to once a day until I see a few roots coming thru the holes I drilled in the cups. I really like the fish tank brain storm I had. No direct breezes yet it has plenty of CO2 for the plants to use. Light is about a foot above them so it is the right hieght. You can see right into the box and detect problems(to wet to dry ect).

Straight pro-mix in starter pots, under dome, 24hrs for first week then 18/6 near 100%. Misting the dome not the clones every 12hrs, for first week, then mist 1x day for 1week then remove dome.Ready to transpant in Two to three weeks.

I use my regular growing mix, and 9 oz plastic bathroom dispenser cups. I soak my cuttings in water (water steeped in willow branches if I'm not being lazy...) for about a day before dipping in cheap Peters rooting powder, pop them into the cups and put them under flouro's. No Dome. No misting. I water lightly twice a day with a turkey baster for three days, then once a day for a week. After that I keep the soil pretty dry to encourage the roots to reach for water.
90%+

In truth, I don't think it matters what system you use, as long as you pay attention to detail and keep things clean, especially your hands....
The one detail that I see in common in all the succesful methods seems to be merely having done it enough times to be comfortable with it.
