I have heard of Linux, but is it really easier to use?
What is compatible with it in the way of software?

It can be just as easy to use, and it far less suceptible to virii. Both SuSE and Mandrake from the list I linked to are very simple to set up and run, as easy as setting up Windows. The Mandrake install can usually be completed inside of 30 minutes (including more software than you can shake a stick at), far faster than Windows, and completely ready to use (no installing of additional programs.) The two links at the bottom of my post contain hundreds of thousands of pieces of software. If you want to do it, there's open-source software for the job. Most people are typically concerned about moving their MS Office/Corel documents. A program by the name of OpenOffice can read and write all those formats and then some. Incidentally, that program has been ported to Windows, so you can use that as an alternative to the pricey MS Office suite on Windows computers.

Don't forget Mac as well! It's a lot more universal that Linux, and (I think) easier to use, but it's still better than Windows, and you're not supporting Bill Gates. Not to mention, people make computer games for Mac.

Yes, yes it is.
SpaceManSpliff - Apple's OS 10 is FreeBSD with a different kernel and a nice GUI. Although their marketing department loves to say that they 'based it on UNIX', it actually is nothing more than a customized UNIX variant with a few extra bells and whistles.
Because of this, most open source programs coded for Linux can be easily installed on Mac OS X (or any other operating system that uses POSIX calls, for that matter)

Hey, im thinking about switchin over... is it worth it?
Depends on what you use your computer for. If you don't play a lot of computer games on the computer i'd say there is no reason not to switch. If all you use your computer for is music/movies/email/web/Microsoft Office type stuff, then a switch to a linux distrobution is relatively painless.
