Being an ageing Neil fan,I had to post these lyrics :

The Needle and the Damage Done

I caught you knockin at my cellar door
I love you baby, can I have some more
Ooh,ooh,the damage done

I hit the city and I lost my band
I watched the needle take another man
Gone,gone,the damage done

I sing the song because I love the man
I know that some of you don't understand
Milk-blood to keep from running out

I've seen the needle and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's like a setting sun

* What's your favorite Neil Young song ?

Actually met him once in Toronto many years ago in Yorkville before it became yuppyville.
Very talented, but a voice only a mother could love and not much hope of him winning any good looks compotition real soon either.
Go figure, now he has the Order of Canada and still rocks them in the real world.

Neil-Young's "Tell Me Why"

Sailing heart-ships thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night
Still the searcher must ride the dark horse
Racing alone in his fright.
Tell me why, tell me why

Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself,
When your old enough to repay but young enough to sell?

Tell me lies later, come and see me
I’ll be around for a while.
I am lonely but you can free me
All in the way that you smile
Tell me why, tell me why

Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself,
When your old enough to repay but young enough to sell?

Tell me why, tell me why
Tell me why, tell me why

Good 'ol Neil'ly baby, I like some of his music, but I must admit his voice gets a little old and whiney

The Needle & the Damage Done is my favorite too, Smitty...like I'm real surprised we picked the same 1. Also Cinnamon Girl is another fave of mine. Neil was the epitomy of late 60s & early 70s counter-culture lifestyle, imo. His wardrobe [& mine] hasn't changed in 30 yrs...flannel shirts, jeans, any shoes that are comfortable [who cares what they look like] & a bag of 'doja' & as long as your stomach was full, not a care in the world.
I miss those days of sitting in the park, letting your freak flag fly...

I thought that feud between him and Lynyrd Skynyrd was pretty funny, how they wrote "flame" songs to each other. Like them both, though.

Saw CSN&Y in pitt. few years ago, they rocked. Neil is the shit!!

Wow Brew,

Somebody's talking my music here. What up. Lynyrd Skynyrd rules.
When my daughter got married, the first dance at the reception with Dad was "Free Bird"
Still get goose bumps when I hear that one.

Yes brother Zoltron,Neil is the bomb.I started looking at more lyrics to print and then realized I need to blaze one so later my good music cyber buddys.

Being a South Carolinian, you were beaten if you didn't listen to Lynyrd. My favorite was "Ballad of Curtis Lowe", if you're familiar. I still listen to all the same shit as I did in 1985, though my Motley Crue/Iron Maiden collection has diminished greatly.

Most of my cd's are Dead related/Bob Marley/Hendrix. Still, between Neil's decade/harvest moon, I get most of his solo goodies.

Colours on the street.. Red, white, and blue.People shuffling there feet, people sleepin inthere shoes. Theres a warning sign on the road ahead, lotsof people sayin' we'd be better off dead. Dont feel like Satan but I am to them. So I try to forget anyway I can! I see a woman on the streets with a baby in her hand, at an old street light near a garbage can. Now she put away the kid and shes goneto get hit. She hates her life and what shes done with it. Theres one more kid that will never go to school, never fall in love, and never get to be kool.. We've got a thousand points a night for the homeless man. We've got a kinder, gentler machinegun hand. Weve got department stores and toilet paper, styrophoam boxes for the ozone layer. Theresa man of the people says he's keepin'em alive. He's got fuel to burn and roads to drive...

KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD!!!!

Oh yeah.

Are You Ready For The Country

Slipping and sliding and playing dominos
Lefting and then Righting,it's not a crime you know
You gotta tell your story boy, before it's time to go

Are you ready for the country because it's time to go
Are you ready for the country because it's time to go

I was talking to the preacher, said God was on my side
Then I ran into the hangman,he said it's time to die
You gotta tell your story boy,you know the reason why

Are you ready for the country because it's time to go
Are you ready for the country because it's time to go

Yea, Pocahontas is a good tune..
Saw Neil and Crazyhorse and they kind of were loud and obnoxious.. Neil comes through at times but it is electrifying overkill to the folk soul...

Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain

With the barkers and the colored ballons

You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain

Though you're thinking that your leaving there too soon

You're leaving there too soon

Neil Young or Stand Old...either 1 -- just "Let Your Freak Flag Fly"...
I might've forgotten to mention it to you, Smitty, but the last time my hair was ponytail long was 1976, soon to be 2005 for my final fling before I'm a goner. I figure I've had pretty short hair for a long time now -- I'm due for a change. Better do it before it all falls out, which is already happening. I used to have real thick hair, but has thinned on top tremendously...not bald with the long sides & back, but more a George Carlin hairdo.
What the hell was the topic? I'm somewhat ripped & don't have a clue...anyway, later...

Zolt my friend and brother the growing the hair thing is a natural form of holding on to that era you liked so much.I tried it and it didn't work for me,now I keep it short and it's totally grey and I never get tired of people saying"Can I help you SIR".

Loc: Great White North
Helpless

There is a town in north Ontario,
With dream comfort memory to spare,
And in my mind
I still need a place to go,
All my changes were there.

Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leaves us

Helpless, helpless, helpless
Baby can you hear me now?
The chains are locked
and tied across the door,
Baby, sing with me somehow.

Helpless, helpless, helpless
Baby can you hear me now?
Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leaves us

Helpless, helpless, helpless.

He's singing about the Great White North here.

Gotta love it.

he's got a lot of great ones, this is one of my favs.

AMERICAN DREAM Lyrics

I used to see you on every T.V.
Your smiling face looked back at me.
I used to see you on every T.V.
Your smiling face looked back at me.
Then they caught you with the girl next door,
People's money piled on the floor,
Accusations that you try to deny,
Revelations and rumors begin to fly.

Now you think about reaching out
Maybe get some help from above.
Now you think about reaching out
Maybe get some help from above.
Reporters crowd around your house.
Going through your garbage like a pack of hounds,
Speculating what they may find out,
It don't matter now, you're all washed up.

You wake up in the middle of the night.
Your sheets are wet and your face is white,
You tried to make a good thing last,
How could something so good, go bad, so fast?

American dream, American dream
American dream, American dream.

Don't know when things went wrong,
Might have been when you were young and strong.
Don't know when things went wrong,
Might have been when you were young and strong.
Reporters crowd around your house.
Going through your garbage like a pack of hounds,
Speculating what they may find out,
It don't matter now, you're all washed up.

Don't know when things went wrong,
Might have been when you were young and strong.
American dream, American dream.
Don't know when things went wrong,
Might have been when you were young and strong.
American dream, American dream.

Neil is from my home town,I've met him and his father many times in the local super market, his father Scott Young,When I was about 16 there were many parties up Scott's trail were Neil would pick guitar and sing,He is a hell of a nice guy. There isnt any thing that Neil does I don't like.Back then it was probably Cinnamon Girl, cause I found one in his town and its been ten years now and shes still my cinnamon girl.Scott Young is not doing to well,he has altimers and it is getting pretty bad.He was an amazing author and writer and is no longer able,he still lives up Scott Youngs trail in his mansion on the hill.Anyone know what town?It means pigion in Ojibwa!Neil's one of the best.Peace All.

I have 4 favorite Neil Young songs. Sorry for how long this post is.

Comes A Time

Comes a time when you’re driftin’
Comes a time when you settle down
Comes a light feelin’s liftin’
Lift that baby right up off the ground.

Oh, this old world keeps spinning round
It’s a wonder tall trees ain’t layin’ down
There comes a time.

You and I we were captured
We took our souls and we flew away
We were right we were giving
That’s how we kept what we gave away.

Oh, this old world keeps spinning round
It’s a wonder tall trees ain’t layin’ down
There comes a time.

-------------------------------------------

Old Man

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

-------------------------------------------

Cinnamon Girl

I wanna live with a cinnamon girl
I could be happy the rest of my life
With a cinnamon girl.

A dreamer of pictures I run in the night
You see us together, chasing the moonlight,
My cinnamon girl.

Ten silver saxes, a bass with a bow
The drummer relaxes and waits between shows
For his cinnamon girl.

A dreamer of pictures I run in the night
You see us together, chasing the moonlight,
My cinnamon girl.

Pa sent me money now
I'm gonna make it somehow
I need another chance
You see your baby loves to dance
Yeah...yeah...yeah.

---------------------------------------

Stupid Girl

You’re just a stupid girl
You really got a lot to learn
Start living again
Forget about remembering
You’re such a stupid girl.

You’re such a beautiful fish
Floppin’ on the summer sand
Lookin’ for the wave you missed
When another one is close at hand
You’re such a stupid girl.

You’re such a stupid girl.

I saw you in mercedes benz
Practicing self-defense
You got it pretty good I guess
I couldn’t see your eyes
You’re really stupid, girl.

You’re such a stupid girl.
