A few friends showed this little contraption to me. You need a 2L pop bottle, a bowl (no shit) and another container that the bottle could fit in, like a large pot (we used a Brita jug).

The only hard part about the assembly is poking a hole for the bowl through the 2L top. Once you get the bowl and lid together, cut the bottom off the 2L. Fill the pot with water until there is about 5cm (2 inches for our American friends) of air space in the 2L when put in the water. And your ready to go.

The only problem we've found is that the bowl can get hot anough to melt the lid a little. We fixed it by using the tube from a bong. Why bother doing alll this work if you hav bong? Well this works best with a slightly clogged screen to get a slower, more complete burn. So if your out of screens, give it a shot.

To use this, if you haven't figured that out yet, is to put a pinch in the bowl and light while lifting the 2L slowly. Just don't lift it out of the water completely (duh).

Oh, one more thing. This is a real efficient way to smoke, if you do it right.
2-3 lungs and you should be nicely toasted with very little waste.

i've always known this technique as a pail, or as a gravity bong.

myself, i like those 3L jugs of President's choice apple juice, and a nice big pail of water. the secret to getting all the smoke burning well is to simulate the action of breathing, up a bit, down a bit, rather than pulling straight up.

and, after just one good pail with a big=assed jug, you're ready to fly! i had a great time once, by using the resin glands left over in my chopper in a pail, rather than the actual pot. you know how those glands can choke you, when they're in a joint? well, that's not a problem, this way.

and, since you're not actually doing the breathing, you can take it all as one big hoot! wowie!

I had heard of a gravity bong, but I thought that was a slightly different set up with the water flowing out of a container to produce the suction. Well, same principal anyway.

So if I'm in Sask. and someone asks if I want a hit off a pail I'll know what he's talkin about.

Instead of the up and down thing we usually chop up the green pretty good to get a quick burn.
I think I'm going to have to get a bigger bottle. :)

Goddamn, one of those things almost killed me once! I was choking for ten minutes, but then again when I was done coughing I was so high I was hallucinating!

If anyone can figure out how to make one out of nicer materials than I do (bottle, pail, tinfoil) let me know. I would love to have one proffessionally made, but I can't figure out what materials would be best.

Hey Sauron, how's it going. Yeah, that aqua lung got me blasted. Just make sure you take your mouth off at the very end, or you will end up with a mouth full of nasty water!

You can make one of glass real easy. Take a bottle(a 40oz of beer) fill the botom with tiny little stones(pea sized). Grab the bottle by the neck and wave the bottle in a circular motion. Once you work it out for some time just tap lightly the bottom edge and the bottom will come out. You can then put some waterproof tape along the edge for security. As for the top you know the way.

Ahhh, the Gravity Bong. We use a bathtub for the bucket, a bucket for the bottle, and a glass funnel for the bowl. Out of the twenty or so people I've done this with, eight have passed out. If you can manage to remain conscious just after the hit using this technique, don't worry, you won't be in an hour. There have been few times that I've been as fucked up using anything else (three chambered bong with Bacardi 151 instead of water was right up there as well).

Ive Just did my first water lung last weekend usualy we use a bag but to keep the top from melting I use a metal lid then U can screw it on and off.

A similar device is a parachute. The pop bottle is the same, with a bowl, but instead of the pail a plastic bag is taped to the bottom of the pop bottle. push the bag into the bottle, then create the suction by pulling the bag out. Not as good, but slightly more portable.
