#645623 - 10/05/03 11:50 AM Bagseed is not as bad as people think.

I have grown all my plants this year from bagseed. But not all were from dirt shit mexican. This bud was usually from green bud that was tented white from trichome production. Few seeds if any came in a bag. The high is superb. This bud where i come from is called Tendies or Pretendos. The plant i got growing is very dark green with Indicia/Sativa mixed shape not to broad yet not to skinny. Alot of compact bud growth. My plant is easily suseptable to mildew and has just been treated for it. It has survived 29 degree temperatures and multiple frost. Resin leaves just starting to come in. Some buds are starting to fill out but still has 3-4 weeks left. Smell is just starting to get stonger. It is a very sweet smell to. I hope my plant is going to be potent.

Sometimes you can get lucky. You obviously picked seeds from some good genetics, that you were happy with and it worked out in your enviromental conditions. My thinking is if you are going put in the time, risk and expense you might as well get the best genetics you can. I'm glad your situation worked out. I almost always suggest to beginners that they try bagseed first just in order to get the germination technique down so they don't fuck up the beans they buy. My experience with bagseed, 3 out of 4 harvest were flops and wouldn't smoke it. Good gentics, 10 out of 10 success, and I'll admit some was better or prefered over others.

Even out of that compact mexican weed can come great plants. Do not get me wrong but it does happen. Mexican bricks are treated bad in many ways. I grew bag seed for many years. I picked the best of the best for parents and would grow more bagseeds the next year hoping to find at least something worth growing but hoping for that keeper. Many times I got hermies from the indoor grown buds. Hermie in late flowering got misses and seeded a few seeds here and there in the grow is my theory. So watch for hermies when growing bagseeds from green bud. I have had many good grows and a many a flops. In 85 a friend of mine went to holland and brought us some seeds. I kept these going for many years but alas the law got my seed crop. Along the years I have picked up and lost several strains. But I think I have a fail safe set up now for future strain once they have been grown and seeded. Good luck and Happy growing.

Bag seed can be great if you get real lucky on the genetics and use your tools wisely. I have had good results in times past with bag seed. If possible though it is nice to start with good 'known' genetics from the word go.

Peace,

All I've grown is bag seed “so far". It is good practice plants and if not that potent can still be made into honey oil... trust me I made it with this years "project".

I grew some nice buds from some above average commercial grade compressed also. Still, wouldn't trade my Mighty Mite for it! Good stuff though and I encourage everyone to grow whatever they have. New people sometimes have trouble grasping the fact that they can actually purchase all the great strains from Marc without being busted.

When you think about it, it's kind of strange that seeds are in there in the first place. I mean it's the females that you smoke, so what are seeds doing there? But, since seeds are there and the weed is smokeable, then it implies that the weed is at least a good grower, so the seeds should produce healthy plants, even though it's weird that they're there in the first place. Kind of like a free bonus.

My favorite weed is from the crappyiest nasty brickweed u can get. Its pure 100% sativa and basically impossible 2 grow indoors or outdoors in places that get snow. Its not bad weed because of genetics its bad weed because how its grown and handled. Theres alot to be discovered in genetics of this brickweed from down south people dont get it but if u live in a tropical area go ahead and plants some you wont be dissapointed.

2 factors to consider with bagseed....lots of high volume growers encourage seeds...seeds= weight...weight=profit..

the problem is the unknown lineage, but you get the advantage of smoking the momma.. but you have to be concerned about hermys.... on the other hand, ive seen and expeirenced good results from some bagseed....what would be intresting to find out is what major growers use for seed stock????? there own bagseed??? i mean at least in the midwest, all the commercial starins are relatively seedy...but the potential is there...a little tlc goes along way... -innercity seed.
