Just curious as to what methods people are using in placing there germinated seeds in to there soil ...I did an experiment and took 8 seeds all germinated at the same time in same conditions. planted 4 one day root tip down planted 4 the next day root tip up. 2 days later the seeds placed root tip up broke the surface. the seeds placed root tip down have shown nothing yet .they are all the same strain. the only thing I think that could have been an advantage for the ones that sprouted is that they stayed in the water an extra day ...just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.and hear other people's responses on wich way they prefer.

Either way will work, but root tip up when it's short is the best IMO. The root wants to curl around the seed like a cats claw and spring itself up. I've noticed if you plant the root down when it's short sometimes it wraps around itself. A little surgery usually takes care of a situation like that, but I've always had more success with planting the root up when it's short. Marc Emery told me once that it also strengthens the seedling.

Hey folks,

The "root tip" is actually the Tap root. You want to point it down.

I always plant with the root tip pointing to the side, since nobody could agree which way. They all came up and grew nicely. I don't think it matters whether it points left or right.

The correct answer is that the root tip should face down. It's going to end up facing down anyway but it will work however. Proof: http://www.daweedking.com/seed.html

Your probably right Norm..it likely doesn't really matter all that much..they just wanna grow!
Peace,

I was looking at that page for the proof that the root should go down first. Instead I got proof that it should go up first according to the diagram on that site. I've always planted the tap root up and felt it worked better, that site substantiates my findings. Web Site

Attachment: Here's the diagram if you don't want to look for it on the web site.

Personally though I have found that it works either way, just better up.

I prefer root tip down...why have the sprout spend all it's energy trying to right itself/twisting and turning when energy can be spent on root growth and leaf development.Root tip down....IMHO..PEACE..

well I knew this would be a debate cause I know people have there own ways they like to do it. thats why I tried this experiment .me being a Newbie and all .....I heard both ways of doing it. but now it is the 5th day and the seeds planted Tap root up are all over an inch tall. and the seeds planted tap root down have yet to break the surface. as I stated before the tap root down seeds were planted a day earlier. than the tap root up seeds. so from this test I would guess tap root up would be the best way . after the others break the surface I will compare to see if there is any differances in size or growth rate.....laterzzzzzzz
