ABOUT THE BOOK

Cannabis culture on the coast and countless beautiful islands of British Columbia is as legendary as it is mysterious. For the past 17 years, activist Ted Smith has been living this culture, and distilling it into a signature monograph.

For over 6 years, Ted has been delivering a weekly lecture series about the history and uses of hemp at the University of Victoria, complemented by an annual Cannabis Convention, of which there have been 13 to date. The UVSS Hempology 101 Club is the largest student club at the University of Victoria. These free, not-for-credit courses aim to educate our future leaders on the many qualities - medicinal, nutritional, and industrial - that make cannabis an ideal solution to many of economic and environmental problems faced by our world today.

In concert with Hempology, Ted created the Cannabis Buyer's Club of Canada (CBCC), which he continues to operate to this day. Founded in Victoria in 1996, the CBCC is a community oriented cooperative that offers a safe, comfortable environment in which people with chronic physical conditions can purchase and use cannabis medicinally. The CBCC offers a wide range of edible, and topical products to suit the needs of its membership, now over 3500 strong.

Ted has been diligently collating the material he has presented at his lectures along with the experience he has gained in operating the CBCC, and after years of preparation, he is now ready to unveil the first fully-referenced mass-edition of the official Hempology 101 textbook. The book presents a comprehensive and holistic view of the mutualistic relationship that exists between humanity and hemp, beginning with the prehistoric origins of this symbiosis, following it through ancient and modern history, and ending in a practical account of the author's ongoing effort to defeat prohibition. It is the culmination of Ted's activism to date and the knowledge he has amassed throughout his life's work.
