So I went to use a Hydrofarm light I have had for years and when screwing a new bulb in I heard a ping of metal breaking. Unscrewed bulb and saw that the little metal tab that holds the spring where the bulb seats is broken and the spring has nothing to hold it on...

I assume I need the spring. I would like to buy a mogul socket and just replace the screw/tab/spring. I only buy online and hydrofarm doesn't sell mogul sockets by themselves from the vendor I purchase from.

Ideas?

mogul base socket with 8/32 mounting screws (i believe it comes with at least 8 inch attached wire leads) - Leviton 8746 and should be under $20

there is another mogul socket version and it has 8/32 threaded holes, but i didn't record that part number

also Etlin Daniels has, depends where you are and who stocks what

i can't picture your spring description travelling at this speed

Maybe you could pull the parts you need off of one of these mogul sockets at Grand Brass.

I think this one is the one I'm going with>>>
http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/4kv-medium-base-socket-w12-inch-leads-p-1182.html

Its cheap and all I need is the metal tab because I saved the screw and spring that was originally on the light. Should work and if I can't harvest parts due to incompatibility I guess I could just take the whole damn thing apart and just wire this one in...fire hazard!! LOL

I appreciate the feed back I just don't want to flower under my T5's. Not to say they don't produce its just I get the fattest nuggs with HPS. Thanks again all.

Good price, I'll bet the shipping and handling is more than that! Good luck... 52.

Why buy online? I understand the issue when talking about any type of grow equipment but a light socket? Don't waste your time and money online. Go to your nearest electrical supply and purchase direct or a farm type of store.

These moguls are very common and used everywhere so no need to hide the fact your broke and you need to replace it. Our farm yard light did the same thing last year and I replaced the socket with a new one from Home Depot.

Good Luck

There we go.

I prefer to buy from the company I have been doing business for years and that's not the only thing I'm purchasing. I could see if that was the only thing I was needing lol.
