Unless you need to keep a plant short dont top it ever, just let it grow, if u do need to keep it short it takes about 2 weeks for a plant to fully recover and start growing vigorously again so only top a few times and only if you need to, you can also just tie them down using wire so u dont need to top of fim or hard stress train.

I find that it depends a lot on the individual plant you're topping/training. Some will bush out by just looking at it and others will resist bushing no mater how many times you top. I would experiment with a few different methods with the given plant. Let it just grow naturally, as well as trying a few methods of topping, LST, Supercropping etc. side by side and see how she responds.

If this is for an outdoor grow and I were to go in blind I would start by topping after the fourth node indoors, then top her again at a month. After she resumes vigorous growth and ideally right after last chance of frost, transplant her outside and train her down and out. Its nice to do the initial damage inside so you can monitor her reaction and put the plant out when she is nice and strong. Then keep topping and training as need be every month or so during the vegetative stage until she starts looking/growing the way you want then let her go and grow into a monster.

If shes wants to be a bush then you may not need to top more than once. If shes stubborn, you may need to keep topping and training. Something to keep in mind though is if she is really stubborn and you're having to work too hard to change the plants natural growth pattern then it could possibly be negatively effecting the potential growth and yield in the end. Some plants will yield just as much if not more if left alone as a single cola too.

My stance is to do the least you have to to get the results you want and let her grow as much naturally as possible. Listen to your plant, it will tell you what it likes. Every plant is different and how you top/train should be on a plant by plant basis in my opinion.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the tips, this is only my second outdoor gow and i only have her this year until my box / room gets here. I had three beauties last year and they were ripped off the night b4"harvest.
I put this girl in 10 gallon bucket 7/27, i know kinda late but here our summmer will run to october at lrast but i may finish her indoors ifneed be just for her proection.
When she started vegging she ended up withna stalks off her own so i guess she is supposed to be bushy, she is off a critical jack or bubblegum strain.
I had to remove about 5 of her leaves due to a little worm chewingnon her but i got that issue resolved and she seems to be thriving.
I will try and put a b4 and after pic if i can get them to upload, i cudnt get one on my profile but i will keep trying
Again thanks

Always prune your plants, this leads to bigger plants and bigger yields.

Please explain why you should ALWAYS top or trim a plant. Sorry, but in my opinion the only thing every plants ALWAYS requires is water, light and food. Topping is not essential, shit most people don't prune autoflowers..
