Yes... very small dots that move around the underside of your leafs. A magnifying glass is better or a jewelers loop, and an inexpensive microscope is even better.

The first signs of a mite infestation are small yellow dots appearing on the tops of the leafs where the mites are consuming the chlorophyll in the leafs.

If the infestation is bad enough, you will see very fine spider webs where the leafs join the stem, where the leaf stems join the branches, where the branches join the main stalk, and at the base of the plant where it meets the soil or media. If the infestation is that bad, you cannot help but notice the aforementioned small yellow dots growing to larger yellow spots on your leaves eventually killing the leaf altogether, and ultimately killing the plant...

Just to add my 2 cents, if you see the webs, usually at a join as 52 said, it's generally too late. This is one of those cases where an oz of prevention is worth a ton of cure. They are very difficult to get rid of; have to do a major clean up before starting over.

IMO, mites are pretty much the worse-case scenario.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

look on the underside of some leaves and see if you see some black pepper moving and if you do happen to have to spray a foliar spray the stem real good so they can't move from spot to spot and not get it on them as long as every spot of the leaf top and bottom, best of luck

You must be as persistent as these little buggers are. With a good and thorough spray down, you can stop them in their tracks... for about a week. Then their eggs will hatch and there will be a whole new generation ready to continue where their deceased parents left off. The first thing this new generation will do is feed and the second thing they do is lay more eggs.

If you run across this problem, you must spray at least weekly if not more often, almost forever ('almost forever' being up until about four or five weeks before harvest). The idea is to kill them as they're coming out of the eggs so that they can reproduce no more, or use a systemic spray that will get into the plant and stop them.

A couple of other thing to note, they thrive on other plants as well and can float in air currents, so even when you think you've got them licked, they can return.

Good luck and be persistent... 52.

Good point guys, I shouldda mentioned that. One small addendum: afaik, mites lay their eggs just under the first layer of cells, which makes them virtually impossible to kill till they hatch.

This is why persistence is needed.
