So, i went shopping for new soil the other day. God! there is ALOT of miracle grow shit out there. Had to go to 2 different places to find something else. Got promix. I thought i read promix was ok. Just wondering if promix is ok for weed. Pretty sure it's gotta be better than MG, No?

Pro-mix is good. Although it is, technically, not soil.

true story bro.

Promix-BX is the one you want if you can get it, as it's pre-ammended with dolomite, as well as a myco-culture.

I have tried the Promix Organic indoor before. It has lime, myco and some ocean compost or something like that. It claims to have nutrition, but is only enough for MJ for about 2 weeks. I might be tempted to mix the new with the old and add a bunch of other amendments, if I had the same stuff as you lying around. The Organic Promix also makes a great substitute for plain peat moss for home soil mixes, but it comes with a bit higher price tag.

If you stick with the straight Promix, you are more than likely going to need some kind of amendments or some kind of nutrient regimen.

If it's Pro-Mix BX or Pro-Mix HP that you have, it is indeed some good shit. But it provides zero nutrition. Treat it like a hydroponic medium -- you must supply all the macro & micro nutrients as well as trace elements.

thanx guys. i mixed it with some compost/manure. It just says "promix all purpose growing mix". We'll give it a shot and see if it works better than MG.

I've used ProMix or Sunshine mix #4 for years, imo it's the ultimate in dirt farming. Provides good aeration and drainage right out of the bail. As mentioned, be aware they contain no nutrients whatsoever, allowing complete control over what your plants - particularly good for seedlings (although some use #2 for germination as it does hold more water).

Go for it!

I also like the Sunshine 4 mix - Easy to find and Easy on the pocket book. Just add AN as suggested & a little Big Bud - Flush 10 days - 2X container volume each day - enjoy

Cut my teeth on sunshine mix #4, had some real good sucess with it for sure.

Just remember it has no nutes so a couple of good meters ph and tds will goo a long way in using this inert product.

Should be an easy switch for a dirt farmer like you Larry.

ive used promix/sunshine #4 for years one thing ive noticed is it says it has dolomite in it but IMO its not enough especially when the bales get slightly moist seems to make the ph too low.

Ive tested several bales and the runoff PH is usally around 5 so I add min 1 TBS of dolomite for every gallon of soil its really hard to overdo it and is a nessecity if your amending the soil because that will lower the ph ever more

dolomite makes for some stress free gardening without it I was running into lockouts due to ph being off.
