Well, they work, but not the way homeopaths think (well, some may intuitively know this). Basically for those who believe they'll work, the placebo effect guarantees some improvement. If it works a few times, the belief is powerfully amplified, and remarkable effects can be noted.
A similar effect can be noted in cases of voodoo curses, the victim believes they're going to die so strongly the stress shuts down the immune system and so they do.
Doctors are seriously considering offering placebos when they can't think of anything else to offer, some already do this, in fact choosing pharms that are basically harmless but with noticeable side effects so the patient "knows it's working". And many do improve.
So even though it's a waste on me, I'm not anti-homeopathy, it's a relatively inexpensive and completely harmless form of placebo and if it helps those who can be helped that way, they're welcome to it in my opinion. But it's never worked on me and many others I know, I do have an uncle who swears by it (claims it helps the symptoms of the lead poisoning from the bullet in his brain he acquired age 7), so, yeah.
