I made a tincture with a bunch of popcorn bud, sugar trim and odds and ends of past harvests. About a half a 1 quart mason jar full of pot.

I topped it up with Everclear, put it in a warm, dark cupboard next to my desk and shook it vigorously a few times every day for 2 solid months.

Then today the urge came over me to get a buzz on with booze. Being low on cash and the liquor store being 10 miles away and the truck running on fumes I needed a plan.

So the plan was/is to get my booze back from the tincture. Using some hi-tech home-made lab apparatus I set off to attain my goal. Get blotto before midnight! laugh

The still

The condenser

The two hooked up and working

Did you notice that today's date is a palindrome? Sure you did. wink

Before you yanks sound off that you busted the Rat making a nOOb mistake us Canuckistanians use the format, Day/Month/Year. Not the back-assward Month/Day/year like y'all. smile

I had originally had the tincture stored in the large bottle but there wasn't enough so I cleaned out this smaller bottle and it works like a hot-damn. Just had to drill out the rubber stopper to fit my hook-up.

Don't forget to toss some boiling chips in there to prevent a massive surge and blow your goody all over the place and maybe start a fire.

Drop by drop I get closer to my goal. Actually I'm already 3 sheets to the wind and it's only 10:50 now.

Another pic with a higher level before I steal another shot. lol

I put a few ozs of the booze back in the big bottle to rinse it out. This will go back into the still to catch the last of the goody. One more small rinse would be good but I'm awful close to my goal and shouldn't be messing around with highly flammable liquids for much longer tonight.

I'm pretty much blotto so I'll call it quits for now and put up some pics of the resulting oil once it's done.

Goal attained with 20 min to spare! happydance

peace

Sweet! nicethread

You make me almost pine for the days when I still had all the necessary pieces of glassware to do the same... except that one fateful night while drinking damn-close-to-95% honey brandy, I blacked out sitting at the computer, woke up the next day lying among the shattered remains of the distillation rig, soaked in mead and oil bath oil (thankfully not hot at the time). The weird thing is there was not a scratch on me...

I've mellowed out a lot since those days. wink

I dumped that rinse in the still and I'm letting it cook out 'til it's done and that's it.

The only other thing I'm doing with the still tonight is to go in and switch off the hot plate when the dripping stops again.

I have a lot of laboratory distillation apparatus too but why risk breaking that stuff when DIY stuff works fine for this kind of coarse distillation. Broke plenty in the past and want to save the rest for something real good like making THC Acetate someday.

Might even do an isomerization on this batch. I have the reagent grade sulfuric acid and everything else. Hmmmm . . .

It just feels good to actually start feeling interested in pursuing some hobbies again after another trip to the dark side.

One of my recent butane distillation projects.

Note the boiling chips in the flask

Flushed out into a pie plate with ISO for final evap and the finished BHO

Further processing for long term storage and it's done

Not the yield I was hoping for but we'll see once it's out and weighed up. I'm thinking an oz at best.

I took this shot with the barrel of my camera stuck in the neck of the bottle.

I'm interested to see what this smokes like as I'm pretty sure it will be very sedative as much of the pot was well aged.

This might just be a good batch to perform an isomerization on to see how it really works to improve a lower grade oil.

If not that, I will do a petroleum ether extraction to rid it of waxes and other impurities.

After using de-colourizing carbon and filtration to clarify it first.

They don't call me LabRat for nothin' wink

Reading your post here Labby, brought a tear to my eye..I miss my lab days frown

Clearly you know what you're doing: warning to science-noobs, do not attempt at home. LabRat is what we call an 'Expert'. smile

Holy Haploids! HA! Had me chuckling for a while there Spectral laugh Funny how with pretty much all other plants, Diploids is what you want.
