Hi there. Does anyone know the right way to put out a joint? I'm a casual user and only take a few tokes on a Friday or Saturday night and I'm good. I live alone so there's no one to pass to, but I find that after a few tokes and stamping out the joint in the ashtray, I end up wasting quite a bit when the head falls off or I don't crush it right. What's the best way to put it out and save it for next weekend?

PS I also have a problem with "canoeing", and this wastes quite a bit of the joint at times, too. What the hell causes that phenomenon?

Uneven cleaning of the material. Ie, small stems still in the mix, also poor rolling technique, pockets of air can cause that.

I always assumed ROACHING a spliff was the "right" way to do it!

Short of that, don't crush it. Gently knock the red tip of the cherry off and lightly hold the still smoldering flat bit to the bottom of your ashtray. You want to smother it and stop the burn by eliminating the airflow. No need to be rough.

same boat here... don't usually finish a whole joint.

I have what looks like a pool cue chalk (picked up at the dollar store), that has a hole drilled thru the center and sits in the ashtray. Just drop the doob (heater down) into in and it snuffs out immediately.

Also works great for cigs instead of mashing it out and creating a 'super' stink of ash/butts.

Thank you for the responses, guys. I like the pool cue idea. Gonna give that a try. I guess I also gotta take care to keep the crap out of the roll and pack it down tighter.

i have an idea, you could have a small cup of water and dip the tip in very slightly to put it out and it wont waist any of your bud. About the caneoing part you should try a stronger rolling paper and roll the joint a little tighter, also grind up the bud in a grinder makes it so much easier to roll it out. you can also just wet your finger tip and soak it slightly on the faster burning side and blow on the slow burning side to speed up the burning. if you want a slower burning joint, after rolling it put the littlest amount of honey on the OUTSIDE of the paper(so you dont acutally smoke the honey, the honey just gets burned off), if you put too much honey on it it will sizzle and drip very hot honey, so just add a little honey. i have a bunch more tip and tricks. like if your smoking a bowl i would break the bud up with your figures so your grinder will last longer and you get all the trichs instead of dumping them in the pollen collector(inside the grinder)

Usually it will just go out if you don't puff on it.
