I start by pinching the fan leaf off of the second node from the bottom, to get it out of the way, leaving the branch intact. The clone does not need the energy this leaf (or much of the others) provides nor does it need to lose water, which cannot be replaced due to lack of roots. (I know, that's transpiration)
At the lowest node, I cut the leaf stem in half, to get that fan leaf out of the way. Then I pinch the branch and the remaining half of the leaf stem and peel it from the main stem down to the cut, as one would peel a banana.
The cutting goes back into the water.
There are several other methods for exposing the cambium layer, where the rooting takes place. One can split or slice, using the razor, the stem in half for a half inch or so, or scrape off the outer layers, using the razor, exposing the cambium layer, etc. Using most of these runs the chance of damaging or crushing the cells that are required to start growing roots, thus I peel to expose.
Only one more thing to do before making the final cut...

So now ya mount the clone in the puck and the puck in the cloner. When the whole thing is either full of clones or empty pucks, or some combination of the two, to seal the top, plug it in and wait a week.
Be patient, and don't open things up for a peek, it lets the moisture out.
Hope this helps someone, if you've got a question or comment, ask or post.

Pick a spot in the cloner for this one and go get some more. When multiples of clones are being prepared, it's best to keep them all at the same level of completion, not one at a time. And keep them in that cup of water.

Thanks for the favorable comments guys and tell me, did I do okay with the cloning explanation? There's a lot of information in these forums on cloning and cloning equipment, and I didn't want to go overboard or get all technical and redundant, but several friends were asking me the same questions on these subjects, via PM, so I posted the information here and combined the two subjects hoping to kill two birds with one stone. Break out the champagne and reefer ... Floger, my son, started this thread on my grow which brought me into CC Forums. I've been a member for a little over six months and we recently reached several milestones. First, the thread topped ten thousand views. This is something that we can not do. It was done by those of you out there in the highlands, and shows that there is an ongoing interest in traveling the less worn path. This topic is not new as I found a thread titled "CFL from start too finish??" that started on 9/22/2008 and has had over eleven thousand views. This shows me that there is quite an interest in small, low budget, low overhead grows in a basement, closet, or spare bedroom, and I will continue posting here in order to give an example of one such grow and the evolution of that grow. I am a creative kind of guy and am always coming up with, and trying, new ideas. It's my nature and I hope you will continue to follow along. Second, I wrote my one hundredth post and now have obtained the rank of Member. The rank thingy is okay, and I'm glad to obtain it, but I see a few making 'atta boy' and 'nice grow' posts just to obtain a higher rank or get on the 'Top Posters in thirty days" list. Please don't take that the wrong way as I have read posts by the current posters on that list and find them very informative and helpful... and even I appreciate a 'nice grow' compliment occasionally. (I have ongoing PMs with two of the five listed) I try to only write informative posts and hope to pass on knowledge and ideas. It is all, of course, in my humble opinion. Third, I've received four stars. This is also something that I didn't and can't do, but instead is a way for readers to rank each other. This means a lot to me as I feel I am on the right track with my postings. Well, that's enough champagne and reefer for now. On to the next post... Thanks and best regards, 52.
