Nematodes work great. But I went on ahead and got some BTI shaker for a top layer. Worked okay on the rose bushes. But for a sure kill, let your pots dry up, get some H202 3%, dilute it to 1tsp/gal of water and water through the top of your pots. The peroxide should take care of most of your larvae and gnats. They only lay in the top few inches of soil until you begin to water through and then they scurry. But the larvae are always towards the top 3-4 inches of soil. Blast them with peroxide and it should do a good number on them. Repeat if necessary.

Just be sure to use the 3% stuff and not the 29% stuff that some hydro stores are selling. Peroxide isn't exactly threatening to the plant, but with that type of concentration you can have some issues - especially if you're using any beneficials.

I've been fighting gnats for a while now...probably futile this time of year, but you have to try. Anyway, I tried something different last night: 1:3 dilution of 3% peroxide. This afternoon I didn't see a single gnat around my seedlings. I'll apply more when I water next. Sorry if someone else mentioned this earlier in this thread, I'm too lazy to read it all !

I'll have to try the next time D.B., but those nematoads worked awesome. Four days after appling them, not a bug in sight, and the best thing is they'll stay alive for another month, when there foood runs out.

Many garden centers carry them/or order them. Also pretty much any hydro shop will order them for you.

But I agree with another poster KNATS SUCK!!!

I'll have to ask at our local garden centre, as the closest hydro shop is in another province!

I believe the spelling is Gnats as so eloquently pointed out by Mikey smile

look at arbico organics.com, thats where I got mine from, but they had to be expressed mailed. If there is a place close by, I would use that and save some money.
