Geez you guys, lighten up. Your repulsion to the word 'weed' smacks of the semantic revulsion for 'marijuana' as opposed to cannabis. There is nothing degrading about being named a weed.
Not being a botanist I am unfamiliar with the scientific classification of most plants. However, labeling cannabis as a vegetable or a fruit is just plain wrong. If the word 'weed' ruffles a few feathers, so be it. Do you have a better, more accurate descriptor ?
Anyway, what do you have invested in marihuana being a 'weed' and not a 'vegetable'?
Sir Robin, that's an odd question: don't know what you are getting at...I have nothing
invested in calling it whatever, simply commenting on what I deemed to be incorrect.
If it's "just a weed" why are people in jail over it?
Topcat, you're kidding, right ? Clearly it is not 'just a weed'. That's like saying a formula one racer is 'just a car'.
Seems petty to me that some people get their feathers ruffled when their passion is labeled as something less than desirable. To continue with my earlier analogy, I don't think racing fans get pissed off if someone calls the object of their affection 'a car'. It is simply what it is.
Oh, and btw, cannabis does grow wild all over the planet. That makes it more of a weed than fruit or veg... In some places they call it ditch weed (referring to ruderalis, I expect).
So, chill - our favourite weed is what it is.
