can anyone tell me what would be the best reflective material. i was wondering whether it would be Mylar or flat white paint or are they about the same. i saw someone on here tell someone else to ditch the aluminum and get flat white paint and it got me wondering wich is best.

Both have their good and bad points. I perfer paint because it is more durable and washable. If you buy the right type of paint and color white you can take advantage of its reflective properties.

I use a specific white, General Paint Titanium white its a flat sheen. You can use any flat white that is washable but you get what you pay for in paints.

Mylar is a good product for quick set up but even the thicker gauge sheeting causes issues for me. Waste of time and money for my set up.

Well said SG. Agreed, on both points. One of the up-sides of flat white paint is it does not require a flat surface to work; apparently mylar works well if kept wrinkle free.

Even though my setup would allow the use of such foil, I still prefer paint as it's cheaper, simple to clean, I can apply it quickly and easily, and from what I've read, it's reflective ability rivals or even exceeds that of pretty much anything else, including mylar.

Just my 2cents.
Ideally the entire grow area is flat white, including the surface your pots sit on, which in my case is a wooden platform I put together.

Prior to using tents which are lined with mylar, I only painted walls and did so for years. I would say they are about even.

get the flat white paint and thank us all later but if you want to put up mylar every 2-3 months and take the time to put it up perfect without causing any wrinkles/hot spots you are more than welcome to.

Put up Mylar and paint it white. Best of both worlds.
