Comedian Tommy Chong fighting prostate cancer

(CNN) -- Tommy Chong, one-half of the marijuana-loving "Cheech and Chong" comedy duo, is battling prostate cancer, he announced Saturday on CNN.

Having first noticed symptoms about eight years ago while incarcerated for selling drug paraphernalia, Chong said he was diagnosed "about a month ago." He revealed his condition in an interview about his support for decriminalizing marijuana use and sales.

"I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis," he told CNN's Don Lemon. "So (legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested."

Chong described the cancer "as a slow stage one (that I've) had for a long time." He said that he was drug free for about three years, during which time he began having prostate-related problems.

"So I know it had nothing to do with cannabis," he said. "Cannabis is a cure."

He and his on-screen partner Cheech Marin recorded a series of hot-selling comedy albums in the early 1970s, before hitting the big screen in 1978 with "Up in Smoke." It was the first of several "Cheech and Chong" films chronicling the adventures and misadventures of the stoner pair. The two continue to tour as a comedic act, with shows scheduled for later this month and the fall, according to their official website.

Besides the "Cheech and Chong" films, Chong has appeared in several TV series, such as "That 70's Show." He's authored several books including "The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint" about his "family business" specializing in handmade bongs, arrest and nine months in federal prison, according to his and Marin's website.

Chong, 74, explained to CNN that he doesn't smoke marijuana, which he said he'd quit about a year ago "for health reasons," to treat his prostate cancer. Rather, he said the ingests the hemp oil "at night, so I won't be woozy all day."

"I'm taking it as a medicine," he said

right on tommy ..i am fighting the same fight and no its the plant that will heal me not the fucking radation shit or colbult treatments ..its cured with good things from the earth not some man made craziness ..so right on tommy , we will over come this and it will be the good things that god has given us to ...

Here's a recipe for a buds-only cancer cure. It takes 6 ounces to cure cancer - this recipe is for 3 ounces. Do it twice and you're cancer-free!

-Take 3 ounces of well-dried top quality cannabis

-Grind it up

-Put cannabis in 20 liters of cold water and stir

-Let sit for 15 minutes

-Pour through a strainer or the largest micron size of bubble bag - don't throw out the buds stems and leaves yet!

-Separate the resin (trichomes) that sink to the bottom from the water and set them aside for the final stage and start to boil and reduce the water on 7 temp on the stove! (keep an eye on the water as it reduces and scrape and stir in the oils that form around the sides of the pot.

-Repeat the process with another 20 liters of cold water for a second wash. Add the resin from the first batch to the resin from the second batch and set aside

-Take the first batch of water and boil it down to a black, sticky substance -slowly reducing the temp as the water evaporates - don't burn it.

-Take the second batch of water and boil it down too. (I use a separate sauce pan to do the final lower temp reduction in)

- Take the left over cannabis and boil it several times adding the water to the final reduction pan as it becomes thick like a milky tea.

-Now add the resin (trichomes) you had set aside to the black, sticky pot-water reductions slowly bringing the temperature down. As the water evaporates I take it off the heat and putting it back on and that helps to not burn the resin. You should get something that looks like very sticky black hash. This cannabis resin is water soluble and can be added back into water to treat burns and heal wounds and be added to teas. smile

The normal dose for most people is 1/2 of a the size of a single grain of rice 3-5 times per day. Slowly increase your doses when you become used to the medicine by 1/2 rice size increments until you are taking about a gram a day. If you start to experience an uncomfortable "high" then dial back on the dose untill you have a comfortable platform to move to the next increase in doseage. The point is to be taking as much of this as your body is able to tolerate. You cannot die of overdose, but you can feel like you're dying if you take too much so start small and slowly build your way up to a larger dose.
