I am going to pose a question, it is not a trick question,, it is real.

When a seedbank says that a plant takes 7-9 weeks to flower, do you start counting the day you flip to 12/12 or do you start counting from the first sign of a flower?

I have struggled with this for years and yet is so simple a question, but one no one seemed to have a real answer for.

I have flowered many strains that say 8-10 weeks and yet I go 12-13 weeks before they are ready for harvest.

My conclusion and what I now do is to start my day count not during transition but when the first bud appears. I have found that my plants harvest then aligns with the breeders claims of time.

I may be wrong on this but it has been very consistent through the years and so I have made changes accordingly and found that I am no longer frustrated with my plants taking longer than expected.

I have always counted from the day I flip 12/12 but did notice most go longer than the stated weeks of that strain .I will try your way this crop and see what happens .Thanks for info RD

I've always counted from the day that I switch to 12/12...and always let the plant tell me when to harvest, the finishing time is just an estimate.

Con, agreed it is only a suggestion but it is based upon a particular count but they won't ever answer if that is days from 12/12 or from onset of flower. I have simply found that from onset of flower it aligns with what they say.

Yeah it should be pretty close to the time from when you induced flowering, obviously slightly affected by nutes, environmental factors, etc.

this could have drastic differences in accuraccy strain and seedbank dependent too.

My trichomes would be way too amber if I started counting from first signs of flower >.>

I have a couple of strains that will not make it to the recommended time line. In a lab under perfect conditions is where they get these numbers, so if your conditions don't come up to their standards your timeline will vary.

Enviormental and growing techniques play a crucial role in the timming, something like stalling the roots for a day can affect harvest not only in weight but timming also

Checking the trich's is the only way to know for sure.

SG that is what I am saying, I do harvest by trichs not time, just seems quite often my days and the breeders do not align by several weeks and it is not that my environment is not right as it is, it is that they simply are not ready until then and I harvest when trichs are about 10% amber.

Way I see it, it wouldn't make any sense to say "from start of showing flowers" vs "from start of 12/12", because what if the plant takes 3 weeks to start flowering? Then it'd be like that time isn't significant, when it sure is!

RD, I know you've been doing this longer than me, I've only grown white rhino, white widow, this "medi bud" garbage, c99, a couple random other strains, and white ruski from m seeds nl. Currently growing, or attempting to grow, haha, thc snow and more white ruski. But anyway, all those strains were advertised as 8/9wks, and they all are. (except for thc snow) I typically harvested 62 days after going to 12/12.

When I was transitioning to learning DWC, I messed up some of those 9wk plants with a low tds at first, and added time to the flowering to try to make up for it. The plants hermied at 11 weeks, before any trichomes were even amber!

I think if they say something like it's 9 weeks when it's really 11, it's them just bullshitting, trying to advertise the plants as more appealing. These days, seems like the industry has been virtually overtaken by a sea of rookie growers in it only for the money, way I see it, of course there are going to be companies happy to feed them the bullshit they want to hear.
