welcome to vancouver where it rains traffic jams...i hope you don't have a nasty commute
i love weekends weekends camping and sparking up by the fire at provincial parks...you NEED to make a reservation at any park within a few hours drive from vancouver...you can reserve specific sites starting 3 months in advance of your arrival date using the following link...for example, if you wanted to stay in a park on august 20, you can make the reservation at *exactly* 7:00am on may 20...you set up your reservation at 6:55am and wait with your finger on the mouse to click as soon as the clock hits 7:00:00
https://secure.camis.com/Discovercamping/golden ears and alice lake parks are close to vancouver and have nice campsites...the views at golden ears are very very very good...you can rent a canoe there if you're just going up for the day
if you like hiking, you should check out the stawamus chief trail at squamish...it's a steep trail and it ends atop the second largest granite monolith in the commonwealth...you can lie on the top and hang your head over the edge for an eye popping view of the coast mountains...there are lots of good hikes around whistler and past whistler:
http://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/stawamus-chief/if you like skiing, forget going to whistler...it's less frustrating to just keep driving past the town on highway 99, roll your car window down, and throw two weeks pay on the side of the road
the naam vegetarian restaurant has been operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for a quarter century on 4th avenue on vancouver's west side...it is a unique restaurant with very good food, even if you aren't a vegetarian...if you go for a meal, pick up a bottle of their miso gravy - it's the new ketchup:
http://www.thenaam.com/you should check out the herb museum operating out of the bc marijuana party headquarters at 303 west hastings:
