Im gonna go to a doctors appointment soon and i will be asking him to sign my mmar papers. I am looking for suggestions on how to talk to my doctor and what to tell him to give myself the best percent chance of approval from my doctor. If you have any suggestions on what to tell him or ask him please help me out. Thank you.

The information about the 5 grams per day and up to ten for people with AIDS is not correct information.

The bold statement from HC on their forms is designed to confuse and if read carefully one will understand them to say that they believe after reading a study that the average Canadian uses between 1 and 3 grams of dried cannabis per day.

I believe that statement has been around since the forms were made and has never been corrected to current averages.

It has recently been testified in Supreme Court that a patient has a limit over 700 grams per day.

Health Canada is not approving anything other than if the forms were filled out correctly and is obligated to issue a license if the criteria are met. The daily amount is decided between Doctor and patient.

Ryan, the best advice I can give you is to be honest with your Doctor and don't try to bamboozle him/her into signing forms that you don't understand yourself. Be calm and go back for another appointment in a week to discuss things further rather than try to convince them in one visit. They need to know that you are looking out for your health and not just your next score.

Also remember that the Doctor has a certain set of skills and often doesn't know much about herbal medicines. The doctor doesn't want to hear that you are trashing his entire profession because weed is the answer to everything. It is the answer to much but it is disrespectful to a Doctor to tell him everything he offers is garbage. Just break your leg or have a kidney stone and see how fast you are interested in conventional medicine. A balance is what you need.

Good luck with your visit.

peace

I find most doctors dont like patients telling them what they think about anything let alone medical cannabis. They dont like to be undermined or feel you know more than them.

I find the best way to deal with doctors is to ask questions that lead to answers you want. Like asking what his opinion of medical cannabis is for your condition. If his answers are positive let him know you have done some research and have already been medicating with it and have seen positive results that you havent seen with pharmaceuticals.

Cannagirl is absolutely right, dont try and trick him tho!

No, most doctors don't have a clue about weed. You have to educate them when your there. Tell them 3 or 4 grams isn't enough. Have the forms with you that he needs to see only. They don't even know how to fill them out so be prepared to explain that too. Let him know you plan to injest as well as use a vapourizer and the differance between pot smoke and ciggarett smoke.

ist drop off the info gathered from scientific studies, then explain how juicing raw cannabis takes a lot of leaves and fresh buds, and doesn't get you high! 2nd explain what you have tried for big pharma's remedies and the side effects you experienced, where as you experienced no adverse side effects with cannabis when you ran that short study on yourself to see if it really works or not. also using it baked into foods takes dbl the amount normally smoked or vaped. never tell them you want to smoke it, even if you do. healthier to eat it 1st(juicing and medibles), vaped second, and smoked last.
i had to do all that slowly over months, and I was a paramedic who worked with my dr for 10 yrs and he still said NO. its not about qualifying for it, its the doctor who was told by the college of physicians that if they sign, then could face loss of insurance, and that means you close the doors to the practice. at least here in alberta thats how it is. good luck

I had spoken to two specialists thankfully I have known for a while (over 1 year). Each I had the nurse assistant come in before the specialist, told them my ongoing issues they were already aware of Headaches Etc...

Bring with you I like to call visual evidence, such as for me, I had bad migraines, sleep issues etc... So I had my Zip Lock bag full of medications, and over the counter advils, tylenols etc...

This brings them a sense that you have been doing all you have been and your not there just for seeking their signature. Be up front, like others stated tell them you've researched, and or used before and are aware of Marijuanas benefits to helping your migraines, sleep issues.

That their not prescribing you something that you will go manic.

I speak to the nurse about my need to search for something that will not make me groggy and sick, unlike the meds I was on for pain and sleep dissorder... And the need to get away from advils and alieve which errode my stomach lining as I have been 'popping them like pills' and state firmly you do not like it.... You want something else and your sick of more medications.

I state, "you know where Im going with this?" Thats when I have my folder of my journal articles, and doctors associations positions on medical marijuana use. Along with the Doctors Liability Form signed and dated along with my parents, who have signed the "witness" component, stating they see how marijuana helps me, and they support me.

That way, the nurse nods, is sympathetic, she knows my plight at this point and then states what she feels how the Specialist Doctor will respond... If their cool or not...

Luckly, I have had TWO Specialists offer to sign my forms!

One, my sleep specialist who had stated "This is the first time I have ever signed one of these that I havnt refused, for you I will do it."

I didn't even have to pay him the standard $35 for the forms. ;0)

Second specialist was my Psychiatrist!... Yes, Psychiatrist!... And she was aware of my past prior with Marijuana use. She is conservative herself on the matter. She said she wanted time to 'consult her colleagues' and to check the 'college of physicians' to make sure she "crossed her t's and dotted her i's".... Hence she would be fine with it, since she knew it would calm me down.

Either way... You never rush into a decision like anything in life, and be adamant to your Doctor. Remind them this is your life and you are suffering, and this is important to you your not a file or a liability.
