I've been trying to research the idea of organic hydro for a little while and, I still don't know anywhere near as much as I want to. I haven't come up with a single source of all the info, although I have come across multiple good sources of separate info, or multiple pieces of the puzzle, so to speak. So I want to start a thread where hopefully we can put this all together and explain the idea of it.

What I want to know is, HOW do I actually grow organic with hydro (specifically DWC)? I am already using botanicare's pure blend pro, supposedly derived from "Fish Meal, Composted Seabird Guano, Kelp, Rock Phosphate, Potassium Carbonate, Magnesium Carbonate, Calcium Carbonate" and liquid karma, which is supposedly derived from kelp seaweed extract. However, something tells me there's a lot more to growing organically than just swapping these nutrients in.

Today I poured some fish fertilizer (the kind of stuff you can find almost anywhere) into one of my dwc tubs, my arm stills smells like gross lake water 3 hours later, after being washed multiple times. I dropped a submersible pump into the tub, circulated it around, and measured the tds and pH. Before adding that, it was 850ppm, 5.5 or so pH, after adding about 230ml to the 60 gallon tub, it went to a little over 1000ppm (.7EC scale) and dropped to about 3.8 or so pH. So it definitely shows up on the meter. I'm damn curious to see what the plants will show in about 3 days. I also added about a quarter ounce of botanicare's ZHO root inoculant to the tub a few days ago.

Anyway, I know some of you guys know a hell of a lot more about this stuff than I do, so please post up!

I've got a friend growing with his own Tea in DWC bubble bucket 5 gal. He does everything the same as synthetic, but adds a mediocre sized pump with a filter bag to the reservoir to keep the solids moving.

I've been contemplating the idea myself, but the more and more I research, the more I hear people talking about microbial life not being able to colonize or flourish in hydro. I know that isn't exactly spot on, as there are amazing hydro ecosystems out there that have incredible plantlife due to microbials, but I'm not sure how to replicate that indoors or in a hydroponic system.

To answer the question about simply "switching nutrients", it really can be as simple as that. Granted, you wouldn't be taking advantage of some of the awesome benefits that organics has to offer such as composting, etc. But you can come close. OMRI certified products are true organic makeups. There are others out there that don't pay for a certification but are in fact organic, you'll just have to do a little research to figure out which are which most of the time.

I'm excited to see where this thread is going.

Well, as Adam Sandler said back in the day, "Fuck me in the goat ass!!"

This is what the fish fertilizer did, I added it only yesterday!

This is a plant in an adjacent tub, with just the pure blend pro nutrients. Both THC snow from m seeds nl.

You guys see why I'm asking? To avoid bullshit like this! Haha

No, thanks for the link though. I normally stay away from that forum, due to so many 100 page threads with only 3 pages of actual info. There are way too many noobs jumping on retarded bandwagons, pointlessly arguing, and talking shit on that forum for me to be able to navigate it. Lol. I will check it out later though, at least enough to see if I can apply any of the theory to my setup.

But hey, if you want to briefly summarize it right here, go for it! It seemed like it was basically a recirculating system that relies on some type of explanded clay media to hold microbial life, only using aeration at the source res?

I gave it to 3 plants. One is okay, the other one is about half as bad as the one I posted. I don't understand the mechanism that caused this to happen though. It's such an extreme response. I swapped out the solution, rinsed the tub and roots with ro water, refilled it and re nuted it up with the pure blend pro combo I had before, 700 something tds with 5.3 or so ph. I really hope this plant recovers, but I won't be surpised if it doesn't. Damn it!

Edit: I wish I could edit my above post, I sound like such a hater. But every time I go on that forum.. I remember this aero thread, dudes were calling each other gay, one guy even posted his aero system pump held in front of him like it was his dick and told the other guy to..well, you get the idea.

Lol, RD, why didn't you just delete his ass? If I could, I would!

Just an update, the plant I hurt with that fish crap, has now dropped about 80% of its leaves, and is looking almost dead. The other 2 in the tub with it have stopped growing, and are also dropping leaves. My eye is glued to this bullshit, I figure they're either going to heal, die, or go hermie, and I just went to 12/12. I'm trying to see if I can get them to heal, as a learning experience, but I'm not letting them grow a cock and balls and fuck the rest of my plants..

plant orgie in the making, cool. I have heard of folks attempting what you are but none that have stayed with it. This makes me think that doing wec organic may simply be more difficult than it is worth. Personally I don't blame the plants, if you fed me fish shit, I would die off too.
