Most of you know that I know a thing or two about organics. I know very, very little about hydro. So here's the story:

I just stuck a cloner full of rooted clones under a UFO. I started with well water 50 ppm. Added .5 ml/gal of Thrive Alive B1 and .5ml/gal of Oneness. New ppm is 95. I tested ph with drops. It ph'd a little below 6 right off the bat. (about the color of light beer, if your familiar with drops) I really have no idea what I'm doing other than experimenting. My question is this: Do you see any problems with what I am doing so far? Keep in mind that I am not serious about this right now. I would call this getting my feet wet. If I don't kill em in a week I will be happy. If I could take one and put into a DWC bucket or something in a week or so, I'd be super happy.

I haven't used any of those particular nutes, But once they are well rooted I start em at about 200 ppm. High 5's are fine for ph. What medium do you have'em in???

No medium. Just in rubber inserts. I have hydroton and net cups. I guess I just need to make a lid for a bucket and get a air pump. What is a good air pump for a 5 gal. bucket? Also, while were at it, what is a good pump for say 4-6 buckets?

gbud goes aero, oughta be a movie titled that. lol... gbuds, you have it right, ideal ph is 5.8 and under 200ppm at this stage. I would recommend using something for a medium though as they may not need it right now but they will need the stability later and it has to be done now. I just use 1" cube in a 3"basket with hydroton, it works well.
You do know of course that once one has gone hydro, they will never be satisfied with soil again.

You know, I didn't even think that I may have a hard time getting them into net pots already rooted. I seem to remember Earl just using neoprene inserts. Thoughts?

I have used noeprene inserts in my Aero.. At Earls suggestion. I used inserts and the machine for a cloner before I bought one. I cloned, vegged, and flowered in em. Now I don't know about DWC though.. I really prefer hydroton.. For one thing those neoprenes were thick and beefy and I can't find em any more.. I should read through this better. You are going to do a DWC correct???

How big are them plants??? How long are the roots???
I'm a lil dense too. Could ya post a pic of what they are in.. Old and stoned = fuck I don't know what it equals... laugh

GBuds, I started a thread in this forum about those drip rings.

Took a less rooted clone and put it into net pot with hydroton. I put that in a five gallon bucket with a bubble wand and air pump. I put one of those flexible bubble wands in there. Wow, lots of little bubbles. I coiled it up like and electric burner coil. I don't why I never tried these things before. Definitely more bubbles than those stones. In 24 hours, the roots popped out of the pot and grew about 4 inches. Plant growth is just starting.

GBuds, about the neoprenes, I use them and no media, but you can only do this if you have some other way of holding the plant up once it gets too big for the neoprene to be able to. The 3" neoprenes are completely worthless, I use only the 2" EZ clone neoprenes. (fit in a 1 7/8" hole) In flowering, I have the trees grow up through chicken wire, that holds them when they get bigger.

With no media, it is so clean and easy to transplant, and the entire root mass is in the bubbling solution, instead of the part with the media being above it. Also without media, you can visually inspect the entire root mass. And, I would bet that the plant grows faster without media too, at least when it's first starting out, getting those roots out through the media into the solution.

As far as tds or ppm, you really just have to keep an eye on it. I just took a guess at what some seedlings would want, got it too low, now I have deficiencies already, really annoying. Lol. Going from 400-600 not even 2 weeks in wasn't enough, I'll probably hit 900 in a few days. That's with a 7/5/12 ratio of botanicare's cal mag, liquid karma, and pure blend pro, and reverse osmosis water, strains white ruski and thc snow. Another thing about that, it is system dependant. My small veg setup, which prevents the roots from becoming entangled between adjacent plants, also puts a crimp in the roots' style, so to speak. The roots are forced to stay in 3.5" or 4" vertical tubes, and that requires a higher tds than an unrestricted setup. 900 in that would probably be about the same as 600 in my flowering setup, once the roots get big enough in that little veg setup to be held back by the tubes. So yeah, you really just have to keep an eye on the plants, they'll tell you what they want..
