How the House GOP promise to cut $100b became $32b

Many conservative House Republicans have asked that the $100 billion dollars in savings promised in the "Pledge to America" happen in fiscal year 2011. The GOP Leadership essentially conceded today that that is unlikely to occur, given the fact that the GOP had no control over the budget for the first five months of fiscal year 2011.

GOP leadership aides are quick to point out that that budget will go to the floor under an open rule, in which members may have a chance to add amendments that would cut more.

The fact that the savings only amount to $32 billion -- and not $100 billion -- is going to surely upset many conservative Tea Party members.

Constitutionally , they are only supposed to be in SESSION, 6 weeks a year, then go home to their states and be citizens, and respond to their constituents. January 30- March 15. Unless there is an EMERGENCY SESSION OF CONGRESS CALLED IN TIME OF WAR. This shit began during the unending "COLD WAR" and now continues with the NEVERENDING "War on Terrorism"

Year round govt is just more proof of their corruption,across the board. Across both sides of the aisle.

I'm not sure that there were any limits placed in the Constitution, but certainly the original Members were elected on a part-time basis and Congressional sessions were scheduled around the time of planting and harvesting. It appears that until 1855, Members were paid on a per diem basis, and after that they were given an Annual salery. But it wasn't until after the installation of Air Conditioning in the Capitol and House Office buildings that Congress really began to meet year round. This was shortly after World War II, and coincided with the rise of the Cold War. But, without Ait Conditioning, you wouldn't get many Legislators to stick around the hot muggy DC region. After all, it was built on a swamp.

You are still way to optimistic about those backstabbing, public dole CROOKS. Take away the 4 million dollars a year in Perks and make their pay back to 35K a year and see how long people Vie for those gigs.

I know of few Representatives in Congress that take away millions of dollars every year. Can you provide details? The problem is that the job isn't as challanging as a good job in the private sector, so you get a lot of monied people who have an agenda they want to promote. Yes, I know it isn't the humidity.
