Hi..I was diagnosed with Crohn's way back in 1976. First surgery took 26 inches of my small intestine and had blood transfusions because I was so anemic. Have dealt with numerous meds given to me by doctors over the years that didn't help at all. In 1999, I found out I had Hep C...from the transfusions...when I had surgery for the 2nd time on my Crohns, where they removed another 8 inches of intestine. In 2011,Januaryt, I started to feel a tenderness where my liver is. Went to the doc, who sent me for blood tests which showed the Hep C was hurting my liver. They sent me for a biopsy, then to a specialist who decided to start me on Interferon and some pill. Within 2 months, I was in the hospital...I had pneumonia, my immune system was shot, my hemoglobin dropped to 67 and needed blood transfusions to bring it up, had lost 15 pounds and spent 6 days in the hospital. The day I entered the hospital was the day I told the doctors I would no longer take their uglu medicine as it was killing me. That was August 2011. In October, I started looking into alternative medicines. I started taking Milkthistle, which helps build cells in the liver. In November, a friend of mine brought me over some cannibis extract. I have been taking it ever since and have noticed the following:
-cramps and diarreha have basically stopped. Instead of diarreha, I am having formed bowel movements...not perfect but excellent compared to before. -tenderness and swelling have gone done in my liver -my hands and feet were always cold...that has gone away -always had a runny nose and post-nasal drip...that has stopped -appetite is back -have more energy and want to actually do things again
I am pretty sure this is all due to the cannibus. I have an appointment with my specialist at the end of January and will have the results of the blood work and an ultrasound by then. I am looking forward to seeing what has changed. I will let everyone know.
Now...I am having difficulty finding a doctor in my home town that will help me get a prescription for medical marijuana, the extract, and wondered if anyone in here might know of one in the Abbotsford, BC area. I look forward to getting feedback on this.
Thanks for listening!

Wow Im so impressed to come here and see so many people with Crohn's finding relief. My husband has Crohn's and has been using cannabis for years. All the opiates in the world do not help with the pain. He calls them "distraction therapy" since all it does is distract you from the pain! He has done all the steroids etc and finally found Remicade to help him. Its not a cure, but the combination of Remicade and cannabis has been his medicine. He is currently using Master Kush.
He has finally decided to apply to HC and become legal, and produce his own since he is quite talented at it. He is also interested in DGing for others. Is it better to apply for your own production before applying to become a DG or is it considered acceptable to apply for both at the same time?
Thank you so much, Crystal

I realize this is a little late of a reply, but...
@Blackice
Glad to see your finding relief, I too have Crohn's and found it to be a great help. Currently it is all I need to take. I've also been thru the list of meds, if it's out there theres a good chance I have taken it. Nothing I have tried, does it on so many fronts like marijuana has. My specialist Refuses to talk about it, but offered me the advise to be careful and not get caught... and my family doc pretended like he didn't have the authority to do so. Anyways, I ended up using the do no harm clinic in Kelowna...not too far from you, but still a good drive. They have a website and you may actually be able to go in person. Look them up and they'll help you out, but it is a paid service as it is a private clinic so its gonna cost $$. When all else fails tho I would look there.
@crystal I would apply for self first then as a DG. To become a DG I believe you have to have the info for the person you are growing for as well. It's NOT like you can become a DG, they give you 100 plants and you find people that need it, as far as I'm to understand. On the DG forms it should have all that, if It doesn't ask for anything info you can't provide, I don't see why you can't apply for both at same time.
Hope that helps

I'm writing a paper for a college class about why medical marijuana should be legalized, specifically in Illinois. What is it about medical marijuana that helps versus taking other medications? Are there specific reasons why medical marijuana is desired?
