Thanks Simo man,
We needed more graphics and I have a friend with a bong just like that...
And thanks GBuds,
A picture is worth a thousand words and this does illustrate the Inverse Square Law. (We needed even more graphics)
Though there are a few things that I would modify. The four corners should converge at a single point at the center of the bulb and not at the edges of a reflector, which should not be in the picture at all. The addition of a reflector adds other variables that are not included in the inverse square law. (can I get an amen, Harvey?)
The "loophole", as I call it, is not a loophole at all. It's within the distances from the source out to one foot. It's shown but not labeled, as I am referring to distances such as: six inches (1/2 foot) from the bulb, the multiplier becomes four times the initial lumens or four thousand lumens in this case.
Most people with HIDs cannot consider this distance but I can and do, to my advantage. If my CFL, which has a rating of thirty four hundred lumens, is placed six inches from a leaf, that leaf will "see" thirteen thousand six hundred lumens. Mount a fifty thousand lumen HID twenty four inches from a leaf and that leaf will "see" twelve thousand five hundred lumens. This is my loophole.
Of course I realize that my footprint gets smaller and that's why I used twelve bulbs in a twelve square foot area with the ability to add more (bulbs) if necessary. Also, I purchased everything for less than the price of a single thousand watt setup and do not have the initial or operational ancillary equipment costs (fans, blowers, portable A/C units, ducting, etc.) associated with a HID setup.
Comments anyone?

Thanks Rebel Dawg, not bad for all CFLs.
Funny you should ask and the short answer is no. But then by now you probably realize I can't/don't do short answers.
I say funny, as I thought someone would ask this question and went to get the temperature measurements to post along with the photos above. By the time I figured out how to post photos (Floger has posted all of the photos until now), the lights were out, things were cooling down and I figured I'd give fresh numbers at noon today(the middle of the twelve hour cycle).
The doors normally stay shut twenty four/seven and the top seventy five percent of the louvers are sealed on the inside with that reflective bubble wrap stuff (look through the louvers in the last two photos and you can see this). Cool air from floor level is drawn into the closet through the twenty five percent that are open at the bottom of the doors and the air moves past the ladies, past the bulbs, and up to the top of the closet where the hot air and odor are removed by a single exhaust fan.
I keep four air temperature measurements on the spreadsheet i.e. temperatures at canopy top level (forty two inches from the floor) inside and outside of the closet, temperature at eye level (above the bulbs at sixty six inches from the floor) inside the closet and an outdoor, in the shade temperature.
The averages so far are:
In closet @ 42" = 78.0 degrees (F) In closet @ 66" = 87.6 degrees (F) In room @ 42" = 74.0 degrees (F) and outdoors in shade = 71.4 degrees (F)
I will cut and trim the first two plants on or about July eleventh (depending on the trichomes) and will post wet weight totals at that time. Approximately two weeks after that, I will post the dry weights as by that time, the buds will be dry and curing.
More to come.
