Ben Stein destroys O’Reilly’s ‘Talking Points’ on taxes

Conservative economist Ben Stein said Monday that he would eat Bill O’Reilly’s shoe if the Fox News host could prove raising taxes on millionaires actually hurts the economy.

O’Reilly began his “Talking Points” segment by asserting that the economy was better off when President Barack Obama was on vacation.

“You know that everything I said in that ‘Memo’ was true,” O’Reilly told Stein.

“Absolutely not,” Stein replied. “Almost every part of it is wrong. Except the part that I think it better if he’s on vacation because he works terribly hard and I think he deserves a vacation.”

I recall a recent thread about 'Narcissism' but I don't think word 'socialist' was ever even used in it ... not sure what thread your talking about.

However, generally speaking, when I see somthing posted in this forum (News, Activism, and Politics » The American Area) ... I tend to assume that it's posted mainly for it's political content and message. I imagine that if someone wanted to have a more in depth discussion on the philosophical and spiritual implications regarding the value of self then they would post it in the 'Cannabis Spirituality & Philosophy' forum .... wouldn't they?

Bailed-out auto Co.s - Bail-outs of GM and Chrysler have only stifled innovation and guaranteed more stagnant mediocracy and bad management in the future. GM's $41,000 Volt is the kind of overpriced, under-performance to expect from sub-par innovation. Remember the K-cars from Chrysler? Next time, let the badly-managed auto companies fail, and the US auto industry will see a rebirth of innovation and actual improvement. Use the government funds to retrain and relocate labor, not reward failed management practices. Chrysler failed in the 80's and got a government bail-out. Now, 30 years later, Chrysler does it again. Who's dumber: Government or Chrysler???

Ben Stein saying that about Taxing the Rich actually means a lot. His father was Herbert Stein an economist under Richard Nixon , whom Ben was a speechwriter for President Nixon as well. Ben is quite the conservative, and the points that O'Reilly made had to be blatantly false to force Stein to take Obama's side. Stein wasn't doing it because he is a rapid liberal but out of a sense of decency against outright propaganda.

Raise the taxes on the rich all you want. There just aren’t enough rich people to make much of a difference. Allowing people to think they can get out of the debt trap just by soaking the rich is a dangerous illusion. You might want to soak the rich just for the fun of it, but it’s not a serious way to solve the debt problem.
