I am sorry to inform you that Jack passed away this morning at home, surrounded by his family. He lost his second battle with cancer at the age of sixty-one.

My personal condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Very sad to hear wake up and hear this news. My heart goes out to Jacks wife Olivia and his kids.

Jack you managed to turn me into a NDP from a Liberal even thought I hate politics. I hope you rest in peace. Hopefully this will be a blessing in disguise, and the youthful NDP will lead the way to getting rid of the conservatives.

He inspired many to be better Canadians. His dream still lives on. New leadership will emerge from the seeds he sowed. Let us be stronger and more political in finding ways to remove the CONs from power.

IMO, he was the only leader you could trust. While I did not agree with every plank in the NDP platform, I recognized Mr Layton as someone who genuinely cared about this country, and therefore supported the NDP with my vote. He was the kind of man you would want as a friend: trustworthy, supportive, intelligent, and not afraid to take a stand and stick to it - something sorely lacking in 99.99% of the politicians today.

Our loss is nothing when compared to that of his family and inner circle, but I do feel loss never the less.

goodbye Jack, we will not forget you. Rest in peace.

His (wonderful) views on pot aside, Jack Layton is going to be sorely missed. He was an amazing leader, both kind and compassionate, down to earth and relatable, but still incredibly strong-willed when it came to what he believed in. I'm so glad that he got to bring the NDP to new highs, though I'm sorely disappointed that I'll never get to see my dream of him becoming our great country's leader. RIP, Jack.
