those peat pellets usually work... after the first week or so the shit should be flushed of any natural pellet shit thats in it.. dont see how a jiffy pellet after first week or so should have any bearing on the grow. i can see if fucking up a seedling trying to pop outta soil and shit maybe. but not a growing plant.

Thanks for your imput.
Now I have a question, I started using miraclegrow and my plants started to get yellow and almost die. Have anyone use this product 15-30-15 miraclegrow? If, so please let me know the best way to use it. I am using the same system shown here.

The advice you are going to get here is the same, "don't use Miracle grow on plants you plan to ingest"

Look around, there are plenty of organic ferts, or you can make your own tea. Research man, research.

Get rid of miracle gro. PERIOD.

I'm BIG on synthetics. That being said, I recommend Advanced Nutrients, Humbolt, or Fox Farms.

Use a peat based medium is also my recommendation--I prefer sunshine #4 or ProMix.

First and foremost I will tell you that I'm an Earl disciple. That being said I'd like to update this hempy bucket thread..

I keep all my mom's in hempy buckets and have been using them for over a year now..

One change that I made is I don't wait till the plant wilts to water or add nutrients. I have found that you can pretty much tell when they are needing food by simply givin' the bucket a lil lift.

Next I found this really coarse perlite. I dump that into the bucket up to the drain hole. My thinking is it allows more room for nutes and it allows for a little bit more air to the roots.

Next I got some rubber stoppers at the hard ware store. I drill a second hole up 2 more inches from the first hole. The reason..
As the plant gets bigger or when ya decide to plower it out it starts using more nutes simply plug the lower hole allows you to give the plant more in a single feeding.. This is mostly for lazy people like me. I found that a big plant in veg would use up the nutes in 3-4 days and then once in flower 2 days..

I have also started drilling smaller hole in the bucket 1/4". The reason for this is I believe it allows for the coco to get really soaked good as it drains slower.

Bottom line.. These are just my theories and as I have said before I don't know shit.. I do belive if you are wanting to try hydro this is a very good way to get yer feet wet with out spending a ton of money. Good Luck and Happy Growing..

P.S. I will prolly get crucified for this but I reuse my medium. I pull the plant and shake the roots off real good and use what's left again and again. And yes there are roots still in the coco perlite mixture.... hehe and oh yeah I quit addin vermiculite..

Cool. I back ya up on all that said, but the hole I dont think is needed, just go by the bucket lift, saves $$ on nutes. I always feed r/o water once a week too use up any nutes on the bottom, benefit from no hole. I would not suggest just reusing the same medium without flushing it. I found just using a empty rubbermaid tub (no lid) and window screen over the top, dump it out on top and rinse the bucket out and wash the perlite. I use a bigger round size perlite by miracle grow. Ayn its just the perlite no nutes smile Anyway much props to the thought in this and glad to see other people still using it.

Well,

Im going to chime in here. For almost a year I was reusing the medium for my Hempy buckets(66% perilite/33%coco), unfortunately it ended up catching up to me this grow. One day around week 6 of flower I walked in the day after feeding my plants, all the Northern Lights had droopy leaves and most were so limp they just fell over. My chemdogs hung in there but are stunted also. After steaking and tying everything up I was totally stumped. For 2 weeks I tried flushing and everything to get things back on track. I had only changed one thing in my entire regime, this time around I stopped using HG Drip Clean.

What I finally concluded was a combination of not using drip clean, and reused media caused a nute lockout due to salt buildup.

I decided to ditch all the old media and now I use perlite in the bottom and 3 parts coco to 1 part coco cubes on top. So far I'm pretty happy with the switch and I dont think I will ever reuse media again.

As stated I got away with it for about a year, but all it takes is one bad grow to convince you that its not worth the risk.

Frodo

How long do ya flush Frodo??? When I'm done flushing the run-off is less than 100 usually around 60ppm.. that tells me there's not much for salts left.. Correct???
