Just have to add this, ALL canned butane products come in cans that have very dangerous chemical rust inhibitors in order to improve the safety and the lengthen the shelve life. These products were designed to fill lighters and camp stoves, not make a consumable product from.

I was concerned about contaminants in the butane I use myself so I ran a little test.

I have an old Mettler analytical balance. The kind with the sliding glass doors on each side that weighs down to 0.0001g.

I weighed a clean 250ml beaker then shot approx 100ml of butane into it and allowed it to evaporate off then re-weighed the beaker.

The difference in weight was negligible. About a 0.0005g increase in the dry beaker weight. This difference could easily be due to balance error or even a small amount of skin oils added when handling the beaker.

If it was contaminants from the butane I believe it is of such a small amount as to pose no danger to folks smoking the end product.

This is a store brand butane from Home Hardware here in Canukistan. It's about the only brand available here so it's what I use. A four-pack is about $10. I haven't tested any other brands as this one is easily obtained and not too pricey. If I could get some of that butane like I've seen that is triple filtered or whatever I would use that.

There are rust inhibitors etc added to liquid camp stove fuel and I distill that before using for extractions or separations. Coleman seems to be the best IMO with the lowest boiling point of ~70 - 78C.

I'm not saying that all brands of butane are the same but I'd use this stuff with confidence.

i forgot to mention what type of butane i use. it MUST be 5x filtered. you dont want to use any cheap crappy butane. i have heard of people using Rohnson and even those ones in the yellow cans that are sold for cheap. if its under $5 a can, it probably isnt filtered 5x. Lava is the best you can get, but is pricey. Vector would be the second best to use. Power 5 is the cheapest of the better butanes.
