We all need to realize something, the NDP will never win an election majority or minority. Democratic Socialism is simply looked upon as too radical by the average Canadian plus we already pay relatively high taxes in Canada and I think the average person would expect the NDP to increase taxes which they probably would.

Look at this from a historical point of view, the Liberal Party enjoyed a nice 13 (I think 13 years) year reign which was as you may recall marked by a few embarrasing scandals. The Canadian Alliance which existed from 2000 to 2003 was led by Stephen Harper and this parties existence effectively divided the conservative vote. Eventually the Conservative Party and Canadian Alliance decided to merge in order to "unite the right". The next election things began going downhill for the Liberal party as they lost their majority in the 04 election. Eventually the scandals bit the liberal party on the ass and the united conservative party took down the Liberals in 06.

The conservative and liberal party have both had their slumps over the decades. Eventually the Liberals will rise from the laughing stock they currently are. Unfortunately Harper is becoming more popular as the days go by and as I've previously said his positive relationship with Obama has made him look much better. When parties merge their always has to be some compromise between their ideologies and goals and maybe just maybe support for legalization could be something a merge between the 2 parties could entail. The only possible way to reach legalization in Canada is through a liberal leader supporting legalization but unfortunately the Conservatice party is steadily gaining power and could fairly easily gain a majority effectively putting off legalization for a long time.

If the NDP and Liberal, 2 parties on the left side of the political spectrum united they might stand a chance to beat the conservative party when and if the NDP retracts its support from the conservatives.

If the NDP and the Liberals merged, it might make for a winning party, but we don't want to end up with a TweedleDum and TweedleDee two-party system as they have in the states, since it isn't serving voters there very well.

We already have a one party system up. The government dances to the tune of whoever has the most money. The only time the government will act with the will of the people is when the people are verging on open revolt or when the government and the people happen to be travelling in the same direction.

I'd rather have two parties then three, one of which serves as a vote waster.

With two parties, over time, all alternative views are suppressed, or ignored by the press. Power is consolidated, and they just trade deals to get legislation passed, to the detriment of the citizens. Its a lose, lose situation IMO and to blame for the present Drug Laws in the USA and worldwide.

The US govt is filled with bullies who have careers built on oppressing others. Don't follow us.

In all honesty, a coalition government would probably have been smart, and constitutional. Now that the governor general and PM Harper are butting heads over the head of state issue, i wonder if she is wishing she would have not prorogued parliment.

Are you for real? In the system we have right now your vote doesn't mean dick. In a coalition they won't even care who you vote for because they all get to put theis hands in the cookie jar

Think about it people!

A NON-VOTE IS THE ONLY VOTE FOR REAL CHANGE!!!

So uh...I'm just coming off the tail end of recovering from a broken neck where I had nothing to do for months...and I didn't see a need to dig up posts older than a year to respond to.

Maybe you should wander around outside for a while rather than hiding in your sour cave. All of your posts just reek to high heaven of a sour old fart that just dunn't wanna be happy.

get educated about PR here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representation

this is the new democracy. it thrives in over 50 counties and it is coming to canada.

this type of electoral process has a tendency towards minority governance.
