The NDP needs to merge into the Liberal party

We all need to realize something, the NDP will never win an election majority or minority. Democratic Socialism is simply looked upon as too radical by the average Canadian plus we already pay relatively high taxes in Canada and I think the average person would expect the NDP to increase taxes which they probably would.
Look at this from a historical point of view, the Liberal Party enjoyed a nice 13 (I think 13 years) year reign which was as you may recall marked by a few embarrasing scandals. The Canadian Alliance which existed from 2000 to 2003 was led by Stephen Harper and this parties existence effectively divided the conservative vote. Eventually the Conservative Party and Canadian Alliance decided to merge in order to "unite the right". The next election things began going downhill for the Liberal party as they lost their majority in the 04 election. Eventually the scandals bit the liberal party on the ass and the united conservative party took down the Liberals in 06.
The conservative and liberal party have both had their slumps over the decades. Eventually the Liberals will rise from the laughing stock they currently are. Unfortunately Harper is becoming more popular as the days go by and as I've previously said his positive relationship with Obama has made him look much better. When parties merge their always has to be some compromise between their ideologies and goals and maybe just maybe support for legalization could be something a merge between the 2 parties could entail. The only possible way to reach legalization in Canada is through a liberal leader supporting legalization but unfortunately the Conservatice party is steadily gaining power and could fairly easily gain a majority effectively putting off legalization for a long time.
If the NDP and Liberal, 2 parties on the left side of the political spectrum united they might stand a chance to beat the conservative party when and if the NDP retracts its support from the conservatives.

get educated about PR here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representationthis is the new democracy. it thrives in over 50 counties and it is coming to canada. this type of electoral process has a tendency towards minority governance.
