OK, as a complete organic Newb (it's probably stamped on my forehead in big, green letters!), I have to ask: if I use one of the excellent soil mixes listed in an accompanying thread, why and when do I need a tea ? There is the same danger as using chems, that is, you can overdose your babies, correct ? I supposed the soil mixes would be more or less complete....ok, go ahead, slap me around with a large trout... watchgrow

no you cannot overdose/nute burn your plant while using organics/ organic teas because unlike chemical nutes which are given to the plant readily viable and ready to be used, organics have to metabolized in the soil and the plant will take up the nutes as she needs them and as they become viable.

You CAN burn plants with organics...do you think they can eat all the shit we trow at them??? If you eat to much you will puke dank,no difference.if the soil cant handle it, it becomes too rich and burns, especially seedlings....

yes you can burn them using organic nutes ..hot manure will burn your plants to nothing ..i just started a guano tea mix i got a little to hot and my babys are burnt to shit ..yes theres no nute that works that wont hurt your plants in someway if you over fert them ..some strains have a better time handling them tho ..i noticed that most of the ism strains handle a heavy nute load .hell i have fed them at every watering threw a grow before.while others like the au's i grew this last summer indoors didnt do so well ..while the outdoor one did fine ..same basic nute reg in both but the outdoor was never hurt by burn ..

even mixing fresh nutes in your soil , you should let it sit a day or to and even run some water over it before planting in it ..i no when i use this outdoors i always have a better time in transition from indoors to out ..so now i mix my indoor soil and put it out on my back steps for a couple days before planting in it and there seems to be a nicer vegg period indoors then i was getting ..less stess for sure ...

Hmm...this does not seem to be right. The plant has no idea what you are feeding it, (clearly) and therefore the caveats apply to both chem and organic ferts.

So, getting back my original question, why are supplemental ferts (teas) required if your media mix is 'good' e.g. contains the goodies described earlier in this thread ?

BTW, thanks guys for your help on this. Appreciate your time.

Cheers

it depends on the soil mix and what the plants are using the most of ..durring vegg the plants eating up the nitragin and as it uses it up ,you replace it with the teas ..also any other extras folks like to add ..molasses , superthrive ,these are to amend your micro herds and straighten out any bad shit going wrong in your soil ..they are not ment to be used as nutes ..altho i no a guy who grows with nothing but mollasses ..but they are in the ground not in pots ..

so if your soil holds all they need , you would start to use the teas to replace the nutes they are using up ...may hold off till the later part or half way threw vegg to start but i would say start them out right away on a weak tea mix and as the season goes on bump up the strangth a bit ..

that's why you don't use hot anything or transplant into a hot pot. if you were to use horse manure you better have let that sit for a 3 years minimum exspecially chicken manure! don't use hot anything and you won't experience any burn whatsoever I have never experienced burns using organics check out my thread.

If you are using a well-balanced soil diet with proper ph levels you will not burn your plant using only organics and organic teas.

so the answer is yes ..organics can burn your plants ..anything hot will burn them ..composted tea being the only exception to this rule ..
