Phrike, sounds like ya are growin in a swamp.. hehehe ... different methods for different areas. In an area like that I would ensure good drainage and air flow across the plant. In that type of area I would raise my beds up off the forest floor and make sure there is plenty of straw on the top of the soil. I believe you will find less mold due to better air flow across the plant. Also grow mold resistant strains like Amazon, ISM O, PBD, any of ISM's strains are bred to be mold resistant.
Cool, thanks ! Yeah, a bit swampy in spring and fall. Had to shovel some dirt/clay to make a land bridge over the part by the pond years ago. I don't recall if you do much in defoliation of fan leaves or leaves shading buds. Do you ? I read good things about defol so I tried it on my outdoor 3. If nothing else, it opened the buds up to more ventilation, and so far, all I've seen is one small dead moldy leaf.

Phrike, if by defoilation you mean do I trim leaves while the plant is growing the answer is yes. There has been much controversy on this site over trimmin leaves. When growing outdoors in the Sunshine, you have the full light spectrum of the sun. Also where I live it gets hot, was over 100 degrees today. I look at it this way: you grow a plant which has "X" amount of root system supporting "Y" vegitation. If the plant is left to "trim itself" by yellowing the leaves and then they fall off you are letting nature trim. However, if you see leaves that are starting to discolor, I take those leaves and the next two leaves up the branch. Also about 3-4 weeks into flower I trim about 1/4 of the leaves from the bottom of the plant and any branch or budsite that won't get enough sun to produce a decent bud. As I said earlier if you have a root structure supporting a certain amount of vegitation and you remove some of the vegitation you just created an extra amount of roots for the vetgitative mass. The plant will start producing more of the vegitative mass. If the plant is starting to bud, it will put the extra energy into building bud. I also conducted a side by side test of my theory last year with two afgoo plants. same size container, same soil, same nutes and same amount of sun. One I trimmed, one I let nature trim. The one nature trimmed was a weaker plant, and the yeild was significantly less than the one i trimmed. Trimming leaves also allows more airflow across the plant which will help with mold issues. That said big dense budz will tend to mold more than the less dense or fluffy budz.
I know that was a long answer to a simple question but I hope it helps.
Thanks for the kind words... hehehe
