Because you are growing the main stem along the ground, the plant that would have been 15-20 feet tall (a sativa dominant plant) now only grows about 6-7 feet tall as long as a main branch from a tall plant. The trick is keeping the middle open to allow the light to the base of the plant. Puttin an X under the node or scraping the node you bury doesn't slow the growth at all, I used that for the first couple of spots, then just started to bury a node and it rooted. Thanks Grow_Wizzard. Yes, I know about SOG, SCROG etc. So is it only the main stem that you create additional rooting points on ? What sort of distance do you use between rooting points ? Have you seen no noticeable difference then between scrape/X and just burying the stem nodes ? When I consider new techniques for something, I often wonder if that technique can be taken to extremes. In this case, I guess that would entail eventually burying the whole main stem to get roots along the entire length. I'm not sure it would make sense to bury the whole main stem at once. I'd think you'd want the side branches growing out of the soil/medium, and I'd guess that would require burying a bit at a time. I'm not sure I'd want to risk my plants with this experiment. Do you think burying the whole main stem in this way might work, and be better than multiple rooting sites every 6-24 inches or whatever ? Cheers !

Phrike, Main stem gets rooted every 4-6 nodes, branches get roots out every 6 to 12 inches, so no not just the main stem, main stem and branches get roots. when the plant was scraped or X'ed and root hormone added they rooted a bit quicker, a day or two, than just burying a node. I think if you buried the whole main stem you might get some mold or fungus issues, also, that would tend to make the branches want to grow up instead of to the side and would make more work and a longer wait time between training. By keeping sections of the main stalk above the ground it allows that portion to act semi normally. I think root sites every 4-6 nodes is best for the main stem, and branches between 6 - 12 inch intervals works best. Thanks for all of the GREAT questions, this will help you and anyone else checking into this thread or method of growing... great stuff... Try it You'll like it...hehehehehe
