Sorry GB. I just can't help but get infuriated when people come here and start this kind of shit in an otherwise great thread.
Whatever the case in this lighting the idea here is to help educate each other, be respectful and remember that we are all on here for the same reason.
I wish moderators would just delete accounts at the first sign of a shit disturber.

Krimzon, I hear ya bro, but we cant just delete folks for going sidewise once inawhile or we would all be gone. We just try to contain the damage minimally and if someone just refuses to be nice, then they are gone.

I agree with you when you say, what was a non viable concept tech 15-16 years ago now has a much better chance of success.

Since some of the earlier Plasma lights went south in the early 90's there's been a massive surge in tech development, the early nineties weren't that much later than the late eighties.

Many good concepts came from back then but technology was still as naff as the Sinclair C5 or ZX spectrum's.

We are now eight, nearly nine years into a more enlightened 21st century, don't know if many people actually notice, but, the future is already happening!

Sure, L.E.D's are great for growing, in the last couple of weed related torrents i posted the "Adventures in Cannabis" vid shows an LED array growing plants in the 'Dam.

The Chinese through EBay are bringing the price down for red/blue/mix arrays and in coming years i may switch or mix red LED & MH HID for UVB.

But i'll make krimzon right, as i say, the future IS already happening and tech is improving, plasma based tech is an area subject to many areas of refinement in recent years, as propulsion systems, as weapons, as etc, not least, lighting.

So Sulphur Plasma lights are improving, spectrums will be tweaked, running costs will come down as it evolves and it will serve to become more available commercially as more government/military/corporate and public sector establishments adopt it.

Technological evolution should suprise nobody, some very clever people out there, ye know.

Ay! ;\)

This was the same study I linked in the initial thread.

Spectrum control already exists.
The sulfur gas is replaced with a different gas to add a red spectrum to the bulb. I'll find the exact gas when I have more time.
Thanks for posting mate. It's nice to see open minded individuals who understand how the world works.

I also wanted to bring some attention the the claim that these lights emit huge amounts of RF [radio frequency] which make them detectable by law enforcement.

Since these technologies need to approved by government, RF is absolutely shielded within the ballast. This was addressed recently by Nlite, and all ballasts are now equipped with RF shielding. Like all things.

Umm, maybe I'm wrong here but wouldn't *ALL* ballasts, regardless of type (HID, Flo, or otherwise) emit RF? I thought this was a physics law or something when dealing with flowing electrons.

You're right, but if it exceeds a certain limit it must be shielded. Otherwise it will interfere with other electronics.

There was a member that was saying that these ballasts were not shielded thus were detectable by law enforcement, which is not the case.
