Ok this thread hasnt been updated in a while so here goes my 2 cents. These plants have been flowering for 4 1/2 weeks. Perlite was kinda expensive at the time so I went 2 to 1 perlite/verm.
I did purchase a ro system while these guys were in veg state but I have plumbing issue and is not istalled yet and they are getting tap water that averages 190 - 220 out of the tap.
I use a 600 watt hps and I am using Earls rule on PPM's Right now they are getting 500 ppm I am using about a cap ful on cal mag plus per gallon and GH powder nutes. I have never grown sticking icky buds and i beleive its cause of the tap water and to much nutes (thanks Earl for the info) right now I think the plants look pretty good, I am a little worried about the yellowing but I guess its about that time. The stems did get purple early on, but this time it just might be the strain (Nirvana bubblicous) I didnt drill a hole in the side bottom either, but I am using the "see how much it weighs" before adding any water. I dont like waiting until it wilts cause to me thats to close to cell damage.
Like I said i have never growing dense sticky buds yet, And on these plants I have never had such big pistles so I think thats good news.
here are some pics, one planter has 2 plants, I actually put 3 in each planter but there were males.

Use more vermiculite than originally posted. I am watering once a week and they are 2 weeks from harvest. In the beginning I went almost 3 weeks between watering.
I don't have a hole in the side either
