Now, the agency’s first boss says it was just a $6 million public relations stunt to score political points.

Using the Pentagon numbers, the 65 planes would cost more than $24 billion to maintain over 30 years, well above Canadian government estimates.

A few years ago, opponents of the Pickering airport proposal changed their tact from just being opposed to an airport to now calling for the land, much of it farmland, to be protected.

According to Elections Canada, preliminary results over three days of voting — on Friday, Saturday and Monday — shows 2,056,001 Canadians voted at advance polls. Friday and Monday were the “busiest two days of advance voting ever,” according to Elections Canada spokeswoman Grace Lake.

"In those cases the families have been called before even I was notified, that had they had been accepted and approved by the minister's office and they were called by Parm Gill," said Dhalla.

“Trying to pass this off and then writing stories that I planned the Iraq war . . . we pass into realms of behaviour that actually leave Canadians furious,” Ignatieff said during a visit to the Star’s Editorial Board. “I could give a damn what they think and say about me any more . . . but God almighty we got to think about what this means to the future of Canadian politics.”

Another recent Harris-Decima survey suggested 27 per cent of Canadians had definite plans to watch the April 12 debate between the country’s federal political leaders, with another 24 per cent saying they were likely to tune in the marquee event of the current election. The numbers were fairly equal across both French and English Canada, said Harris-Decima senior vice-president Doug Anderson.

Captain Blah continues to blather on about how little canadians are interested in politricks, however these polls and the advanced voting poll with the highest turnout ever recorded points to something quite different. In fact good by pirates, hope they imprison as many as they can after May 2.

Local youth will set the bar high this week, voting at a rate somewhere near 100 per cent in a parallel election being held across the city.

The move was made to distance the Stephen Harper campaign from what Sun Media mogul Pierre Karl Peladeau claimed was a dirty trick — the leak of an incriminating photo and damaging information that said Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff had aided U.S. military planners in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion. The photo, forwarded to Sun Media vice-president Kory Teneycke — another former Harper aide — wasn’t of Ignatieff.
