I keep hearing about this CO2 boost is it a good thing or not. I like it for safety reasons but have heard mixed results on how long it lasts. Anybody here try it?Let me know please so I can make a decision about buying it or not. Thanks

CO2 supplementation can boost growth rates by 10% or more if you've got enough light. How long it lasts depends upon how well sealed the room is.

Yeast, water, sugar, and a gallon milk jug. I usually fill the jug nearly halfway with water, add the yeast and the sugar. Stab a hole in the lid to allow the co2 to escape. A few times a week go into the grow chamber and with your thumb over the hole, shake the shit out of the jug. Upon realesing your thumb from the jug co2 will spray out of the hole. And yes, how long it will last depends on how well sealed your grow area is. I know people that swear by it.

The room has to be sealed in order for CO2 to have any benefit to the grow area.

Because it has to be a sealed room, and because of extra equipment and power, most growers can't use a CO2 boost system in there grow rooms. It simply cost to much and power consumption is so high it's a tell for the law. All heat and humidity problems must be addressed within this sealed environment. You will need "Air Conditioning" for the heat removal, large "Dehumidifier" to deal with the moisture in the air, dark and light cycles. With all the extra equipment and power use to run said equipment, the cost is quite high for the non-commercial grower.

I would suggest a large exhaust and supply air system, 10 inches in dia. min., in and out, on a thermostat, with exhaust attached to a charcoal filter. This is much more affordable for most growers, uses way less power, and keeps usable CO2 levels as high as in outside air(replaces CO2 used by the plants continuously).

Most people think CO2 boost growth...In reality, it speeds up growth.

If you enrich a room with CO2 and you have an 8 week strain, 7-10 days will be shaved off the finish time of that crop. This works great for commerial growers, with 100's of plants and 50 plus lights, it gives them one extra crop a year. Personal growers have less plants and less lights, and can afford the extra time, and need to stay under the laws radar.

In my opinion...The active air system with thermostat is a better way to go for the average grower. Less hassle, less cost, and you get some what the same results 7-10 days later.

Peace...Buddhasmiletoke

I would consider a CO2 tank and regulator. I have used one for awhile. I use CO2 because I grow in hydroponic system. With accelerated growth CO2 helps. Once growth has slowed I back off on the CO2

Buddha I respectfully disagree with part of that statement. Yes the cost is higher for ac and dehumidifiers, yes the sealed room is a pain to dial in.But in the end there is and increase in yield as well as a reduction in time and the extra power is really not that high. Take for example a vertical room growing 28 plants with 2 1000 watt bulbs. with the Ac, night dehumidifier running, and the co2 tanks, the total extra cost was 180.00$. So for 180 bucks I gained 16% more yield, and saved my self 6 days. So in the end well worth it to me.

Dope soup the natural method is nice but there is no way to tell how much co2 is being produced with out a meter, and if you have a meter you may as well run a burner or tank.

Basically CO2 is the last step a grower should take, before that you should have a dialed in sealed room, nute schedule down to a t, and know your room and strain in side and out.

I have found that Co2 is a great addition to the grow room and would advise anyone to use it as long as they have a sealed room.
Cost is not really much higher and you need to remember to shut off the exhaust while Co2 is dispensed.
What Buddha said above, I too have found to be true. My plants both grow at a faster rate but they also finish sooner.

dopesoup is there any measurements for the yeast to sugar ratio?

yeast and sugar produces an uncontrolled release of CO2 and not nearly high enough PPM to work as well as a Proper CO2 system.

lemme straighten all this out. i believe that he is asking about the product called "CO2 Boost". it is a bucket system consisting of composted mushrooms and other matter. it uses an air pump and air line to release the cO2. i found it to work pretty well. the only thing is that you need to have the line hanging right above your plants. i split the line and add a tee, so i can drop a couple lines over each light. just remember that cO2 is very heavy, and it falls right to the ground, so keep some circulation fans blowing it around.

as far as other methods of producing cO2, lets not forget the Baking Soda method, hehehe.
