Recently a scandal revolving around sexual misconduct in the MPP has gotten some media attention.

Now, on the comments, Mark Emery (rightly) defends the MPP as an organization that has done a tremendous amount for the reform movement. He says, and I agree, that this can and will be used as a tool by Pigots and Prohibitionists to tear us apart and slow down all the momentum we have going for us this year. (Post 69 is by Mark).

This is the biggest, most anticipated year EVER for cannabis reform. For the love of marijuana, do NOT allow this scandal to tear us apart, and allow ourselves to bicker over what really happened versus what allegedly happened. All we know for sure is that Kampia violated business ethics in one of the worst ways possible, and we are now as a community facing the repercussions. So please, I urge everyone to stand together, to think of what is best for the overall community first and foremost, and to be civil and respectful with one another if disagreements do arise.

when I heard this story break, my thoughts were OMG, "people have sex with people they work with, oh no!" LMAO, cannabis has always been considered a potent aphrodisiac through history by numerous cultures, its hardly a scandal at all.

It's a scandal because it has to do with sex, and everyone knows the good Christian people of America don't have sex except once they are married and solely to have another baby with no pleasure associated.

I hadn't heard of this. Frankly, sex is sex and it's given waaaaayyy too much attention generally. That being said, Kampia's behaviour as illustrated by that write up is deplorable. I'm sorry but that's horribly irresponsible on several levels. The guy has done something incredibly stupid.

Sorry but if I were a woman in that environment, I would be exceptionally uncomfortable. The manner in which he conducted himself with female colleagues as asserted in that write up is terrible.

sexual frivolity is awesome if you ask me and conventional hangs up are borderline indications of societal mental illnesses. That however should not and does not translate to some kind of moral justification for some one to treat women in such a degrading fashion. It also is terribly irresponsible to abuse one's position like that and expose the drug policy reform movement to such a degrading discussion of ethics and responsibility among leadership figures within it who have relished the role for what were previously thought to be the best of intentions. Now, I know I can't be so sure.

Again. sex is awesome. Sex with multiple people is also awesome if engaged in responsibly by those who wish to. Good on em. Coming to terms with and embracing your personal sexual preferences and relationship structures (whether that be monogamy, polygamy, polyamoury, etc..) is a huge personal development step for anyone. Treating people like objects to be used for personal gratification is not.

From what i've read, it is something that could have been dealt with in house, rather than all this media about it. As creepy as some of those comments were, People should deal with that stuff as it creeps up, not "oh and he did this too" all at once. Sex amongst co-workers is probably the real norm, not the abnormality.

I didn't say it was an abnormality but I think Rob Kampia possibly is. Sex among co-workers has been done and will be done and praise be to flying spaghetti monster for that. That however does not excuse the behaviour of Rob Kampia and how he's irresponsibly exposed the reform movement to an awkward and entirely unneeded discussion.

You can only expect this to be dealt with in house if all parties are ready to deal with it responsibly. If you have an idiot thinking with the wrong head in the mix, this public debacle will be the result.

As a separate note here though, I should try not to get caught up in assumption. It's worth mentioning that a lot of what is printed isn't verified by fact and it is very possibly a smear piece that has no substance behind it. I sincerely and honestly hope that this is the case!
