I should add that on step 8 light...you should have the light on a 18/6 light cycle, the plant develops roots in the dark cycle.

I'm used to cloning, and doing it in dirt. I always had to cover them so they didn't dry out. Is this ruled out since water is constently on them? Since they absorb though there leafs in the absent of roots figured they would have to have be sprayed at least. Thanks.

Dont want to highjack someone elses thread ...I too always cloned in dirt/soilless medium and a humidity dome. I read a couple things and made a simple 90 site cloner. No dome needed. I cloned some others using coco and rockwool and used a dome. There is no comparison between the two. I'll never use medium again. I used some rooting powder on a couple but stopped after it washed away. Either way I had no problems. I used one of those under the bed plastic containers. A heater, a double air pump and two airstones. Due to a lack of supplies I wrapped it in tin foil to keep the light out. I used shelf liner to hold the clones in the holes. Clones taken the day after christmas, started showing roots after 4 days. As you can see the roots are out of control and ready to be moved.

Man those look real good! What a smart idea Jake Bake. What was your temperature set at? Also what was the ph of the water? Oh and one last question....are your lights on all the time or 18/6? The reason I ask is I am about to build mine and am looking for all the info I can get.

Thanks. I loved how it worked out.

Temp - 70f

ph - 5.8

2 drops of maxicrop each day after day 1(not sure this is needed I just wanted something available to the potential new roots)

Lights - 24/0 I'll try 18/6 next time to see if there is a difference.

Dual air pump with two 6 inch airstones

Light will get to the solution if you use shelf liner like I did. The roots formed quicker than any algae so this didn't end up being an issue.

Good luck. If you have any other questions please go to the gutter grow. I don't want to hijack this thread.

Both systems are really nice and a great way to bootstrap and save money when needed. I will be building a similiar set up as well. I will post pics when im building.

Love the ingenuity within these threads and this proves it. Building the components needed for a system not only saves money, but it allows the individual the time to "get-to-know" how hydroponics works and what to do in-case of a failure of a given part or component. Keep posting the great ideas along with photo's for everyone to admire...Peace and Pot

BS,

The reason why the drill turns on your wrist
is the bit to cut the holes has coarse teeth.
Those coarse teeth hook and grab the plastic,
yanking it before beginning the actual cut.

Next time use a bit with finer teeth.Get a decent bit
that is made to last after many uses.
Home depot or lowes will do the job.
