(1991) Carlos Santana gets busted

Quote:
Hippie guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana got busted at Houston International Airport in 1991, for transporting five grames of pot from mexico

"My criminal record was blank," said Santana later. "They're holding me because I forgot to dump my bag coming from Mexico, and there was a the size of a toothpick. That was a threat to the national security?"

Santana's legendary experience of being high on LSD during his performance at Woodstock didn't come up during the trial...

A note to the reader:

Up till now I've been avoiding posting anything post-1991 as Eighties culture. I'm going to define the Eighties, as it applies to Cannabis to span to 1993. This way, the entire George H. Bush and Ronald Reagan presidencies are encapsulated, as are Cypress Hill's, Dr. Dre's and Snoop Doggy Dogg's Cannabis Inspired albums that influenced the entire Nineties.

That's where CC51 cuts off their research, right before Cannabis Culture Magazine starts publishing and Emery Seeds starts overgrowing.

"Do you think herb has helped to mellow out a lot of the thug mentality in hhip-hop?" Replies Snoog Dogg: "On the real, when me and Dre put chronic on the map, we took crack out of the black community. (1993) Snoop Doggy Dogg - DoggyStyle

Doggystyle is the debut solo album from American West Coast hip hop rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg, released November 23, 1993 on Death Row Records. The album was recorded soon following the release of Dr. Dre's landmark debut album The Chronic (1992), to which Snoop Dogg contributed significantly. His musical stylizations for the album share similarity to those featured on Doggystyle.[1] Critics have praised Snoop Dogg for the lyrical "realism" he delivers on the album and for his distinctive vocal flow.[1][2] While recording the album, Snoop Dogg was arrested in connection with Phillip Woldermarian's death; he was tried and acquitted in 1996.

[...]The ideas put forward through the lyrics include Snoop Dogg's adolescent urges, as he freely talks of casual sex, smoking marijuana and gunning down rival gang members.Source
