The yield depends on the size of the bucket
all other things being equal.

Hey Earl, just wanted to let you know that your wealth of knowledge is one of the main reasons I use this site. I have a few crops under my belt and each one has gotten better thanks to your advice. I was wondering about the nute load in the hempies. Do you always keep it at 50% or is that just for the first couple weeks?

The nutes that I use (AN)
work best at 50% or less.

From what I have read
all other nutes are working the same way,
50% or less is best.

I use the same load in Aero,
DWC, or the Hempy Buckets.

Near midway through flower
I reduce the nute load even more
until I am just running RO
for the last couple of weeks.

I used to believe it was the light that caused my buds to be dry,
but now I am sure it was because my nute loads were too high.

Now my buds are sticky and sweet,
and my nuggs are packed hard.

Light makes them dense,
too much nutes will burn the flavor out.

If you plotted your nute load on a graph
it wold look like a bell
with the highest load occurring
during the transition from veg to flower
and taper back down to 0 at the end.

1000 Watt hempy bucket grow

Can you transplant with the hempy bucket method?
I'd like to flower in 5 Gal buckets, but don't have room for that size in my veg room.
If so, what would be a better container to transfer from, a container that is about 8" round and 8" tall or one that is 6" round and 12" tall.
The 5 Gal bucket is 14" tall (if that info helps), I'm thinking the taller one would put the roots closer to the bottom of the 5 Gal bucket so that would be better, but I'm not sure.

It is pretty hard to transplant form one bucket to another.

The perlite will melt,
the roots will be exposed,
and then they get damaged.

I transfer from cups to buckets,
but I have to destroy the cup in the process.

It helps to hold some shape if the perlite is wet,
but it is still pretty tense.

So with the perlite very wet,
I make a hole in the bucket the shape of the cup.



Then I remove the bottom of the cup and place it in the bucket.


After the cup is in the hole,
use the scissors to cut down the side in three or four places.



And then remove the pieces of the cup


It would be pretty hard to do this with a bucket,
cutting the bottom off and then cutting down the sides.

Ah okay, I grow in soil and the rootball keeps the shape of the pot so I was hoping it would be the same.
I guess I'll have to figure something else out.

Could I veg them in a rockwool block or would that hold too much water after.
I'd like to not have to use my flower room for veging.
I guess I should ask if it would be okay to transplant right at the start of flowering.
Do the roots need to fill the bucket before I start to flower or can I let them grow into it?

having never tried to transplant
like your dirt farmers does.

I am negative about rockwool
so no real help there either
since I have never use the stuff.

Why not stick to dirt
since you already have that experience
and the buckets will fit your room ?

I was hoping to get the increased yield of hydro without going to a full hydro system.
Maybe I'll have to rethink things some more.
