Alright, so I'm gonna put up a few pics, then ask the question...
This was my bud about 1 day after harvest, still really damp, but quick dried with a blowdryer...

and here's a pic of bud from the same plant, after complete drying (this bud is from the cola as well)

Why did this happen? I really liked the way the first bud looked waaaay better than the second. They obviously smoked different, but I was just wondering what might have caused this change>
The following 2 pics are of some kush that my boy picked up, looks and smells different than anything I've ever seen. Super, SUPER dense, crazy sweet/diesel smell... I cant even figure how this bud was trimmed. take a look and tell me what you think, and how to get buds that look like this!

I know I'll probably lose some respect for these questions... but oh well. anything to get better!

Do you do a long proper curing process?

Took like a month, maybe a bit longer to get here, and I've seen waaaaaay better. It's not just the dry. It's the cure too. I wish mine looked like those too, lol.

i would guess the part where you use a blow dryer to dry your buds is the problem. you have to let them dry on there own, and yes it does take some time. ussualy a week or 2 before you can start smokeing.

Depending on genetic propensity, light intensity can affect bud density.

All rhymes aside, Heat or not enough light can cause lanky growth. Sometimes its a genetic trait. What kind of lights were used? What strain? What were the temps?

Ive seen microwaved buds, oven dried buds, not dried buds but the is no substitute for a proper cure. I stop watering about 3 or 4 days before I chop. After they are cut I let them hang for 4-5 days. Ill then cut the buds from the stems and place into jars.

After only a couple hours in the jars, Ill remove the lids for a day or so. Ill put the lids back on for 12 or so hours before removing again for a few hours. This is done repeatedly to draw out moisture from the inner stem around the bud.

Once you can leave the lids on for a day or so and remove them without the buds feeling damp, youre ready to cure. Put the lids back on and place in a dark coolish spot for at least 1 week for Indicas and at least 2 weeks for sativas (4 is better).

If you have to smoke it right away, bubble bags are a good investment. They can be used to make hash from fresh material in an hour or less.

Im sure there is a tek on here that goes into more detail. This is just an overview of my process.

Good luck in your quest to produce the dankest nuggage in the world.

Haha I should have been clearer... The only bud that I blow-dryed was the one in the first pic. the rest I cured proper; hung for 6 days in the dark, with ventilation, then brown bagged, then jarred. I was using a Flouros for veg., 400 watt hps for 4 weeks of flowering, and then add 600 more hps watts for the final four weeks. fed no nutes for the final 3 weeks, and the plants seemed to be fine... (to me at least). Temps were sometimes high, but not often. Strain was unknown, they were "freebie" seeds from amsterdammarijuanaseeds.com, and off of five plants, I ended up getting about 6 oz. The weird thing was, my buds were kinda crispy after hanging for only 4-5 days! The stems still werent "snappable", but the buds had no dampness to them. they were pretty much "crumbly". Idk... maybe I just have a brown thumb lol. any other input is greatly appreciated, and BTW, those nugs look Delicious Anders!

I've had buds get crispy after three days of hanging. I threw them i a jar and the next day they were moist(ish) and I let them stay out for the day then jared them. They were perfectly cured after a couple weeks. Some varieties just aren't dense, like Thai, but some are and need a carb boost to reach their potential. For those three weeks you were flushing you should have been carb-loading it as well. Molasses works great. And don't forget that CO2 is important; if there is not enough the plants won't dense up.

im thinking its from brown bagging. I personally hate that technique and have seen it destroy good buds so many times. Try throwing them in a jar and stick a piece of your favorite fruit to the top of the jar(obviously not touching the buds) and let the buds soak up some of the moisture from it. I found it works very well with lemons, strawberrys and apples.
