Yes, the Prince was in Victoria today... we are not amused.

The system of constitutional monarchy that exists in Great Britain and Canada, and parliaments built to suit baronial property owners, are keeping any significant grassroots change from occurring in either country. While that has occasionally proved beneficial in the past, it is a huge stumbling block for progressive change in both countries.

I think we in BC should just take off and start our own show...

As I understand it, Marc Emery will be extradited to the U.S.A. just as soon as Rob Nicholson signs the extradition papers.
Why has he not done so?
Afterall, Marc has been imprisoned for about six weeks, what is the hold up?
It's not like the Conservatives want to do Marc any favours.
I would like to think that it is because of the public pressure we all are putting on the Conservative government.
I pray that they are afaid of the public outrage and are contemplating their decision.
However, I fear that the delay is just a tactic to keep Marc in jail longer.
Time spent in Canadian custody will mean nothing at a U.S. sentencing hearing.
I truly hope that I am wrong.

I suspect you are correct, unfortunately, that Marc's detention awaiting extradtion will not count toward 'time served' unless that was part of the plea agreement.

As I undersand it, he is being given a day for a day time served well waiting.

Trust me, the contempt of US officials toward Canadians is not just directed at Marc. I've seen the DOT in Maine target ONLY Canadian trucks in a so-called "Safety Blitz" and ignore US trucks with obvious damage. I had a brand new rig with only 4600KM on it and they kept me for over an hour before finally saying that I could move on. For those who don't know, truckers only make money while we're moving.

More and more I come to understand a heaping pile of reasons that I don't take my truck across that lovely little strip of gestappo land into the States.

Americans are afraid of everyone because they have pissed off the world with their arrogance and ignorance. Who would want to go there anyways ? Boycott the fuckers !

What do you base that statement on? And its sad that some Canadians can't discriminate between a government and its people.

I don't see American citizens as afraid of much except our own government.

And each other OC... there are alot of divisions along wealth/racial/regional/political lines in the states. All part of the structure of fear, but not all of it is the government.

Again, not unique problem. Americans only discriminate between a government and the people they seek to govern when it is THEIR country. Just look at how they propagandize everyone else.

I don't know many people who actively fear their neighbors, unless they live in a SHITTY PLACE. Seriously. I've lived in places where racism and ignorance was rampant, and sure, the ignorant people are fearful. That's neither shocking nor new.

Having said that, Educated, intelligent people aren't fearful in my experience. They seek new experiences, and new friends from any and all cultures. They don't hide, or stalk around, or act fearful.

I know speaking for myself. I don't fear neighbors or other citizens, as much as I fear my government.
