Just a note about the TI smartlamp. I have spent alot of time looking at LED's as I thought about trying to build my own. I gave it up after pricing out the components. anyway. I found a few close ups of the smartlamp online, all the led's they use are philips rebel or K2's. (150 of em, 105 red 18 blue,15 white,12 amber/green )
Guess what, Philips makes NO led's that are deep red, far red,IR or UV. check it out for yourself, either on philipslumileds.com or on future.ca . Now there IS a "dental blue" that gets near UV, but it has been discontinued. It also cost over 60 bucks from future electronics! So maybe the smartlamp has miniscule amounts of IR and UV as a consequence of the spectrum of the blue and red LED's used. It certainly is going to be no greater than any other LEd light on the market. their "pro-bloom" option is simply some mix of the availble LED's in the cyan to red orange part of the spectrum. I would love to be shown an actual graph of their output that proves me wrong. None the less, if Frodo is using a smartlamp, it looks like it is working well enough.

JTF, I have flipped over my lamp several times, and I have no idea how you can tell the manufacturer of these small leds even with a magnifying glass, but maybe you can. I can state that I've never seen far red leds, but I have seen the normal spectra reds, blues, oranges, greens and whites. The 12 pro-bloom bulbs arent any of them. If you read my earlier post closesly I stated no visible light is being emitted from the LED, all you can see is a faint red glow in the center of all 12 leds. The red glow is the site of the led firing, but what ever light is being generated isnt in the normal visual range. You see no light coming from the led other then a faint red pin point glow in the center of the led. So I totally disagree with your assessment of the 12 pro-bloom LEDS being run of the mill LEDS. I repeat I looked at a number of LED devices of all types in person, and I have never seen any LEDS that look remotely close to these. Frodo
