you really do have to WANT to quit. you have to regard cigarettes as a complete waste of money, time, and health in order to take it to the next step. you have to look at it as deceptive poison. pot definately helps soothe the need for smoke inhalation and the buzz helps with withdrawl tension. i wouldn't have been able to quit if it wasn't for pot and my bike. whenever i needed a cig, i would bust my ass on a heavy duty bike ride and if i still needed a smoke when i got back... i'd twist up some green. though there were times when pot just wasn't enough... these were times when i would follow up with a bowl of cigar tobacco. i would take small tokes of cigar leaf, not inhaling the smoke, but letting it hit my tounge... as soon as a salivation effect took place i would empty the bowl and relax. i guess you could say that it's just substituting one tobacco product for another but it did help me. as time went on, i smoked less and less bowls of tobacco leaf and now im 100% free of nicotine. everyone has their own rituals and methods for quiting but exercise and pot are both outstanding tools to be considered. and in regard to wheter it's too soon to talk to your child about pot and tobacco... personally, i think it is. i would say, 10yrs old is a good age for parents to introduce information to substances and why we feel a need to use and abuse them. don't let DARE be the first to sculp their understanding of things. btw, congrats on quiting i know when i did it, i felt like i was reborn.

I quit smoking cigarettes for a couple of months earlier this year, but have backslid this month big time. When I was not smoking, I would go and drink about a quarter of a gallon of water every time I got the urge, and it definitely took care of my cravings.
Granted I was taking a piss every half hour, but it was a lot better than coming back inside with that dirty taste in my mouth and tobacco stink on my fingers.
Hey, why the hell am I still smoking?

Just a little update on the story I posted about my battle with the demon weed. My daughter has (of course) caught me smoking the odd joint since I quit smoking the cigs. My wife told me she smelled it upstairs in her room (holy crap what a sense of smell!) In response to this fall from grace, she proceed to draw a photo of a "no smoking" sign on a blackboard which is immediately behind my computer desk. This is also the place where I smoke most of my herb when she is not around . In her way , as she explained, this is my little reminder to stay of the "straight and narrow". BTW. Month 6 and not a puff of the ol'tabbacy yet
